3rd Gen "Classic" Zunes?

Even though the Gizmodo leak has apparently been shown to be fake, it begs one question:

Ok, so we have kept on receiving news on the new touch screen zune, But what about the 3rd Generation of the HDD based zunes (Hard Disk Drive based Zunes) or is Microsoft going to primarily focus on flash drives?

I think they should - it makes sense to compete with Apple in both markets. the HDD-based will probably be 120GB (or, fingers crossed, 240GB). And if both use the Tegra / OLED / HD Radio etc, they can beat Apple at their own game. They also need to release their products before Apple does.

As for a HDD-based touch screen unit, companies like Archos already offer that (granted, theirs is a 2.5" drive). So hopefully MS can manage to get that working.

manyamaggot	They must continue making Hard drive devices, touchscreens are for monkeys ,,how many songs and HD movies could you sync with only 32 max? I have 62 gigs of music, so If want to have all my music and HD videos plus space to spare in marketplace and wifi , I will need at least a new device of 100, 120 gbs.Touchscreens is not my preference but wifi internet like the Ipod touch has,,will be nice

ACE	I think the HDD Zunes may live on and MS only changes some aesthetics like the iPod Classic, but there's also the possibility that they might be phased out. MS has said they will not be going with Zune hardware 'full-steam ahead' but ya never know.../devil's advocate I do hope there will be large capacity Zunes forever though...

Hard drives are slow - every hard drive based player has problems with access times - sometimes when you use your Zune it'll lag a little to load a song. Try using a Zune 8 or any other flash based player and there is never any lag in loading a song

A touch based device has to be quick since theres going to be CPU overhead to use the touch panel - you wouldn't want it to lag from two things. There have been laggy touch devices released recently like the HTC Touch Diamond, Blackberry Storm etc etc. On the flipside, flash storage sucks for browsing the web - look at the iPhone and SSD based Eee PCs for example
