3rd Gen "Classic" Zunes?
April 20, 2009 by Jorvette
Even though the Gizmodo leak has apparently been shown to be fake, it begs one question:
Ok, so we have kept on receiving news on the new touch screen zune, But what about the 3rd Generation of the HDD based zunes (Hard Disk Drive based Zunes) or is Microsoft going to primarily focus on flash drives?
Other questions to consider are:
- Will there even be a 3rd Gen HDD zune?
- If so, are they going to look any different?
- What HDD sizes could they have?
- If the "ZHD" has HD radio and other goodies, What will this one have inside?
- What colors?
The following can also go for the smaller zunes (Zune 4/8/16) as nothing has been announced for them either. Are the 2nd Gen zunes going to be phased out like the zune 30 was?
What are your thoughts?

As for a HDD-based touch screen unit, companies like Archos already offer that (granted, theirs is a 2.5" drive). So hopefully MS can manage to get that working.

I have 62 gigs of music, so If want to have all my music and HD videos plus space to spare in marketplace and wifi , I will need at least a new device of 100, 120 gbs.Touchscreens is not my preference but wifi internet like the Ipod touch has,,will be nice
I do hope there will be large capacity Zunes forever though...
A touch based device has to be quick since theres going to be CPU overhead to use the touch panel - you wouldn't want it to lag from two things. There have been laggy touch devices released recently like the HTC Touch Diamond, Blackberry Storm etc etc. On the flipside, flash storage sucks for browsing the web - look at the iPhone and SSD based Eee PCs for example
