Has the Zune 80 been shot down at Target?

Rumor has it that Target decided to stop selling Zune 80s. Not exactly suprising seeing that they have an entire aisle for the iPod and just a small corner for the Zune but to officially end their supply of Zune 80 is unbearable!

I first found out about this topic at our forums on April 1st, unsure if it was a cruel April Fool's prank or not, I continue to pursue the rumor.

First thing I did was a search on Target's website for the Zune 80. They had the Zune 4 and 8 but the 80 was MIA. I did an interview with a fellow Zune Boards forum member Antiapplekid who is currently an employee at Target.

Jon: How long have you been working at Target?

Antiapplekid: I have been working at Target for 7 Months

Jon: Where and when did you hear this news?

Antiapplekid: I scanned the spot where the zune is and the target computer said it was gone

Jon: Are you sure it's only at your local Target or nation-wide.

Antiapplekid: I think it might be nation but we are reseting electronics for new stuff

Jon: Is this a cruel April Fools joke?

Antiapplekid: NOOOOO I am 100% Not Lieing I am a eagle scout I wouldn't do that

Jon: Is it in effect instantly? What will happen to the Zune 80s they still have right now?

Antiapplekid: right now we are sold out of them and we have none

Jon: What is your opinion on this move by Target?

Antiapplekid: I really think it is a bad move from Target because everytime someone goes into the target store that I work at they go straight to the IPODS and I ask them iif they would like choices other then the IPOD and they say yes and I explain about the advances of the Zune allot of the people like options and want something that none of there friends have and that is where the Zune comes in I hate Ipods and when someone heres Mp3 Player they think IPOD and if Target gets rid of the 80 GB Zune people dont have choices

So to sum it up our Target "mole" informed us that the Zune 80 is no longer in their computer. However more Zune Boards forum members replied to the thread with some more information:

stkr: "I was just at Target on Sunday and, as usual, [the Zune 80] had plenty in stock. I agree that this might be more local (I hope). There were some at Circuit City as well. Circuit City even had the flash-based Zunes on display."

Chri(Z)tian: "Well I called my cousin earlier today and asked about their stock on zune 80's. By the way he's the manager of the Target in my erea. He said they had plenty in stock. I guess it's just in Antiapplekids area, in other words at his Target."

FauxCivility: "I work at Target too...I haven't heard about this. But I do know we rarely get shipments in of them. They're always out. =[ Harder to find than Wiis."

I had that problem. When I was in the market for my zune 80, NO store in town had the them in stock. I got scared because all three targets in my town said it was in "discontinued status", and kmart said that they just stopped receiving them, and they had plenty of the 4/8/30 in stock. I litterally drove around to every place that sold electronics and i finally just had to order it online. Very sad really.
