Microsoft Will Add Video Games to Zune by July 2008

Microsoft Corp., the world's largest software maker, will introduce video games for its Zune music player within 18 months to match features available on Apple Computer Inc.'s dominant iPod.

Peter Moore, a vice president in the company's Xbox video- game business, confirmed the plan yesterday, saying the Zune's large screen will offer a better way to play handheld games. He didn't specify what games would be offered.

"I love the interface, I love the screen,'' Moore said at a dinner with reporters during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Zune, introduced in November, has failed to take market share from Apple's iPod, partly because the device lacks iPod features such as games and TV programs, said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at JupiterResearch. Exclusive Zune features, including a wireless connection to other Zune devices, don't work very well, he said.

``It's not like the music enthusiasts have been flocking to Zune, and they need to really answer Apple in terms of feature parity,'' said Gartenberg, who is based in New York. ``But they will also have to find ways to differentiate. If all they do is hit parity with iPod, they don't win.''

Why does it have to take 18 months? I'm considering returning the Zune I bought because I didn't take the time to realize it doesn't have game capability. This just means I have to spend even more money to now buy another device to have games. At 240.00 I shouldn't have to do that.

yeah, why is microsoft so slow at matching sony's psp. seems to me they should have put xbox games into the zune from the start and it would have killed the market.

][/b]I am very dissappointed with the Zune. I have two ipods and a zune. Ipods were before the Zunes came out. Microsoft does not appear to have taken the features seriously when they designed the Zune. Looks like my player will be a Ipod. I have been a strong microsoft supporter but my resolve is fading.

If Your gonna complain that the Zune was slow on adding games and matching the sony psp. think for a second. its an MP3 Player not a videogame system. PSP is videogame system that does everything else because it was made that way. Microsoft is intending on making a real solid wifi compatibility with there games and want it to be flawless when it is released. it would be like the PS3. It was launched way to early and has a really crappy game lineup.

playing games on your zune vs. xbox 360 live owners would be sweet.
