Apparently for you people who want the zune80 and can't find it, there is a reason....
Microsoft's newest and largest Zune is no where to be found. Not online, not in stores - what's the deal? Click to read more...
Since the release of the new Zunes last Tuesday, it's rare to see the new Zune 80s. Consumers on the web and in stores are a little miffed - expecially the ones that pre-ordered their Zunes at online stores such as BestBuy and Amazon. They're being told their orders will ship in 10 days (since last week).
What caused this shortage? Some think MS was simply rushing the new Zunes to market:
"I think they were already probably a little later than they would like to be, given Apple's iPod announcement" of a new line of the market-leading devices in September, said Matt Rosoff, an analyst at the independent research group Directions on Microsoft. "They probably wanted to get anything out the door as soon as they could."
But if you had been watching a couple months ago, there had been news the 2gen Zune had had some manufacturing problems. Could this be the cause? No one except Microsoft knows for sure, but what is for sure is you won't be finding the large capacity Zune until the beginning of December in considerable numbers.
Now there's controversy whether the shortage is good or bad for the new Zune. Is this shortage showing some weakness by Microsoft? Or is it good for it to be scarce? Our own lpxxfaintxx posed this question in a poll. Hop on into the forums to give your vote on how you think!
No matter if you can't get your hands on one or not, how sweet are the new Zune designs? Very sweet...
