Yup, it's true! Surprisingly, the Zune won the best "Portable Audio Device" award at the annual awards at IGN. The runnerup was the iPod Shuffle 2G. Last year's winner was the iPod nano. 

For lack of major innovation in the portable audio market in 2006, the Zune takes the win for at least offering some new features. Betting against Apple is a risky game, and only adventurous consumers will likely make the Zune purchase, however, the Zune hardware itself isn't bad thanks to interesting aesthetics, a bright, animated, and well designed UI, and the potential for expanded WiFi capabilities.
