As many of you know, the new Zunes debuted this week with much fanfare from the Zune community.  On November 13, 2007, the new Zunes and firmware will be ready for the US release and here's what you can expect!
new zunes
New Zune Models
Zune will now come in four different sizes.  80GB with a larger 3.2 inch screen, 30GB - the one we've all come to know well, 8GB and 4GB flash memory with a 1.8 inch screen.
zunepad
New Zune Pad
The new Zune models will come complete with a touch-sensitive Zune Pad.  It will make scrolling through music easy as a flick of your finger.  30GB models will still retain the original D-pad.
headphones
Premium Headphones Standard
The new 80GB Zune models will come standard with Premium headphones making the musical experience with Zune that much better!
ui
New User Interface
The new Zune interface will have a new look and feel taking advantage of larger fonts to make navigating through menus a breeze.  Current Zune owners will be able to take advangtage of this cool new feature with a simple firmware update.  Microsoft has not forgotten about us!
zm
New Zune Marketplace
Zune Marketplace will get a completely new look.  They've shed the old Windows Media Player look and redesigned it into a breath-takingly nice interface.
pc
Podcast Support
Zune will now have podcast support (no that's not an iPod term, it's not affiliated with Apple what so ever - they just do them too).  Zune Marketplace will start offering podcasts in November!
mce
Recorded Live TV
Using Windows Media Center on your Vista Home Premium/Ultimate, you will now be able to record live TV and upload it to you Zune.  Who needs to pay $1.99 per episode?  Zune makes it easy and FREE!
vid
New Video Support
Zune will now have MPEG-4 and H.264 native support.  No need for Zune Marketplace to convert to WMV!  And get a Audio/Video Out attachment, and Zune will display upto DVD quality images!
wireless
Wireless Sync
Sync up your tunes, pics, vids, and podcasts from anywhere in your home using your wireless network!  Syncing has never been this easy!  And get a docking station or wall charger, and you'll never have to connect your Zune to your computer AGAIN!
zs
New Zune Social site
Releasing in beta right now, Zune social will be kinda like MySpace where you can create a profile, have friends, IM each other, and much more!  Sharing music and playlists has never been this cool!

Microsoft really is doing a lot in this next generation of Zunes.  Can't wait to see what's next...

Does anyone know if the new firmware will support the asian languages?
Gaurdian   | 85.145.80.xxx | 2007-10-08 11:19:16
Cesar said that if there are not american symbols in a songs name, the zune software will automaticly use the same font microsoft uses and transfer it to the zune, so yes.

So, the 30 GB model is exactly the same as the ones we have now? How much will they sell for?

The Zune 80 looks awesome!! However, MS saves me a bunch of money since my old Zune 30 also gets all the new features.. Honestly, I really appreciate their works!

I'm very excited about this release! I love my Zune and these features are what most of us have been waiting for some time now. I even managed to sell my old Zune for a decent price and plan on getting the 80 GB black.

I own a Zune and I still think this is too little too late.

These are features that should have been include with Zune v1 or with early firmware updates. Who the hell doesn't include a clock or podcast support? Huh?

There's still functions that I need to see, otherwise I will not be making the most of my current Zune and will not be buying a Zune again:
-3rd party apps possible
-syncing of my calendar and possibly mail messages
-ability to save webpages so I can read news or weblogs with the zune
-a fix of the 'various artists' classification problem that exists in WMP and therefore on the Zune as well

Some great improvements here, but they're late and I expect more.

Yes, the new firmware will give the older Zunes the same functionality as the new Zunes, minus the touch-sensitive Zune-Pad

go suck a tree Edward.
sorry that you cant change the weather patterns of Earth with the new Zune. maybe you could be happy like the rest of us for all the awesome new features. Im personally REALLY excited for the new 80 gig. GJ Microsoft
Edward   | 137.205.20.xxx | 2007-10-12 11:00:48
vote4pedro1090: Your argument seems counter-intuitive; I don't deny that these are awesome new features that I'd probably trade my left kidney for, but that doesn't absolve the creator (in this case, Microsoft) of their responsibility to ensuring that the product is shipped with all the common, basic functions, as well as more innovative ones.
What I'm really getting at is that while I would never buy an iPod, if the Zune ever wants to be an iPod killer, it still needs to go that bit further. As others have said before me - the Zune team has the resources, Microsoft has the money, why are we not seeing a slew of both great basic functions and hot new innovative ones?

you awful negative for a zune owner dude? evolution of a product takes time at least MS provides support for earlier versions unlike stinkPod where you need to get a different unit entirely.
jimmy   | 82.5.35.xxx | 2007-10-12 16:51:52
have you guys read anywhere whether or not the 1st generation zunes will get the dvd quality output using an audio/vid cable? that would be a sweet upgrade.
pogo   | 70.234.213.xxx | 2007-10-12 20:59:52
The firmware upgrade will give the video audio upgrade to old zunes its a firmware thing and wont just be included in the z30 im going to keep my z30 since the firmware updates make it like having a z80 only a little bigger

Don't worry Edward, I agree with you! Microsoft has been shafting zune owners for how long now? It is ridiculous that they cannot release firmware in a timely manor and make huge announcements that include south african music and expect us to get excited.

Is Microsoft only going to let us record live tv on vista's media center and not xp's?
