Yup, the notorious zune install error. One of our member, who is also part of our programming team, has figured out a fix/workaround this.

  1. Plop in your installation CD that came with the Zune.
  2. Go to "Start --> Run"
  3. Type in "D:\Packages\ZUNE\msxml6-x86-ENU(Zune).exe"
  4. Then type in "D:\Packages\ZUNE\Zune-x86-ENU.exe /Q" (both without quotes)

Remember to replace the "D" with the drive that the CD is in. It won't have a foreground window so you won't know what's going on, but it should be installing in the background. You'll know your done when your zune says "Connected."  After your Zune changes to the "Connected" screen, restart your computer. You're done!

Thanks SC_Modder!

create a new windows user account, with adminstritive rights. put in the disk, wait for the promt to connect your Zune, you will now be able to install the latest update. you can then go back to your normal windows user account to use your Zune.

I've tried all the things listed here, but I've never gotten prompted to connect the player. When I tried the first option here, i got a message that it couldn't be ran from outside of "Zune.exe". when i tried the new account thing, it just gave me the error message of the girl screaming. I've been enjoying the radio thus far though

Well, $250 down the drain. If I had a nickel for every one I've given Microsoft for hardware that does not work, I could buy Bill Gates. Tess.

is there any way to use the zune without the software being installed on your computer, the error fix doesn't work, and all the ways to install software won't work.
