Eric Langhorst, Missouri’s Teacher of the Year, has been recognized nationwide for his innovative and unique ways to enhance student learning. His “studycasts” are podcasts that students could download through the teacher's blog.

Eric Langhorst, along with one other teacher nationwide, has been chosen by Microsoft to test out the Zune to incorporate into his teaching. Langhorst had previous experiences with Microsoft when he was invited to Microsoft's Innovative Teachers Forum.

What does this mean for the Zune?  Could the Zune be making its way to schools across America? Feel free to input your predictions and opinions in the comments!

[Thanks, Alex! Article

Definitely an idea, though it could be done with iPods.

This would never happen in my school. They are next to nazi's here. It's a very controlled environment.

iPods have been used in the classrooms for a while now, but I'm sure the Zune's ability to transfer media makes it a lot easier to send out these files.

At my school we have online courses that contains notes, homework and a few video tutorials that I think can be put into podcast somehow which would be crazy because having to print out each set of notes was too much. Having them all on my zune would be excellent.

I'm sorry, but this article is plain dumb.

Maybe MS is hoping that one of these students might be gifted and will be able to figure out how to make the Zune software actually work properly since they don't seem to be able to do so themselves.

Seriously you cant tell me that a room full of kids with zunes is gonna be able to pay attention to their teacher when they could be playing mulyiplayed pong with each other. As cool as it would be, I doubt this will be the next big thing in teaching

I think it can be a very good way to introduce the Zune to schoolkids. They can play with it and see that it's a very good iPod alternative.

Honestly, this idea seems highly doable, and as a added bonus, gives a reason to listen to Zunes in the classroom, even if you want to just listen to music. On another plus side, it could give the US of A a reason to not force students to go to school, but to just stay home and watch these, like a few Colleges are now doing. One small step for podcasts, one giant leap for Zunes and how much better M$ can make them.

podcasts can be used for all mp3 players. zunes are the best alternative though.

Hello. My name is Eric Langhorst - the teacher mentioned in the post. Our pilot this year with the Zunes has been very successful.

In response to one of the first posts - yes, some of this could be done with an i-Pod but the i-Pod does not allow you to "beam" audio content to another i-Pod user. It has been pretty cool to have a student who missed class the day before come in the classroom and ask for the studyguide from yesterday and then being able to send it to them in a matter of seconds without any wires.

I also give them the presentation notes (PowerPoints) in the form of image collections and videos. Since you can plug in a Zune to a computer as a guest - not possible after 5 registrations with i-Tunes - I plug in a student Zune, drop and drag the images and video to their player and then do the same with the next student. I have downloaded the content for an entire week to 25 students in about 30 minutes.

Our district allows MP3 players in the classroo...
