With headlines like:
Retail hordes go loony over Zune

Shoppers go zany over Zune the Zune is a surprising hit this holiday season - a much different view than a year ago. And the Zune is also unexpectedly getting a lot of attention! Point and click to read more.....
"Push them out of line!....if they get in first, I'm going to sue!"
Could be heard amongst impatient holiday shoppers today. At the New York Toy'R'Us, people waited for hours for the doors to open at 5am. Why are these customers wanting Zune this holiday season, which is a stark difference to the mild demand experienced last year? Well for starters, the price this year at thousands of locations across the country has been slashed up to 60% making it #1 on bargain minded shoppers' lists this year.
Also, the shortage of the Zune 80 has also created a frenzy of attention.
Articles are popping up everywhere including HERE, HERE, and HERE; all highlighting the lack of availability of the Zune 80. While we all know the shortage is due to a manufacturing issue, to most people who've never heard of the Zune, this could turn out to be good for Microsoft. While some criticize MS for the shortage, this is added attention the Zune 80 would otherwise not have had and is good to an extent. Remember, there's no such thing as bad publicity....
And if you're one of the ones still waiting to get their hands on a Zune 80, don't worry - the shortage, says Microsoft, will be over in under a week. It goes to show that many people ARE looking for an alternative to iPod, and as Chris Leckness of Gotzune.com said,
Many people are not buying into the idea you have to buy an iPod to be cool
