With all the hardware spec rumors about the Zune 2.0 flyng around, one aspect seems to be overlooked - the features! One would hope the Zune 2.0 would get added functionality along with a sleek new look. While speculation abounds, this writer has done his homework and has found some possibilities. Microsoft has applied for some patents, and it would be cool to see some of these become standard on Zune 2.0 and Zune v1. First off, we have a patent request that will allow for Zune owners to have two added benefits.
(1) Zune Marketplace would be able to analyze your music listening habits, and push new stuff to your Zune (with permission, obviously). And (2), a playlist sharing feature that would allow you to create a playlist that your friends can subscribe to, meaning whenever you update it with new songs, they get them too. It'd use Zune's wi-fi connection, probably to send the playlist initialy, and then once uploaded to the receiver's Zune Marketplace, they would be able to get the music you have on your playlist including updates.
Another patent request (which isn't that new) is a pay as you share feature. Paying you to share! This has been an idea for some time now, but is Microsoft getting ready to unleash it?

Although all of this is all speculation, it's interesting Microsoft applied for these patents over a year ago and would be in prime position to release these - making Zune a bigger competitor than previously thought....
