New Firmware 2.3 Released!

As promised by Ceaser on ZuneInsider, there is a firmware release for the month of December and, it was released today. Firmware 2.3 does exactly what Ceaser said it would, and that is improve battery issues and performance.

To update your device, first plug it into your computer using the USB sync cable (I don't know if it can be done wirelessly). Open the Zune software if it isn't already open and go to Settings in the the top right corner of the screen. Then on the top left there should be 3 options, Software, Device, and Account. Select Device and then Device Update from the left hand menu. Finally choose to update the device and try not to move the device or push any buttons on it while it does its thing.

The only battery issue i ever had was when i was wirelessly syncing the battery was dead in ten minutes top. I doubt this update could fix the fact that the version 1 zunes battery won't take the load very long.

I hope this fixes the battery issue. I just installed it onto my zune so I guess time will tell.

i just installed the firmware
the new firmware runs faster than the first firmware,the first firmware made my 80gb zune look slow compared to the 30gb

@Guest User, that is why you are supposed to have it attached to a power source when you sync wirelessly, and most people won't be syncing their whole library wirelessly either, it'll be like a song/podcast or 2.

Why do this when the software STILL doesn't work right, and the device STILL doesn't work right.
I've loved my zune up until the update to 2.0....it looks a lot better...but it doesn't work right.
ms has their priorities wrong still.

Sounds like your doing it wrong. My 30 works better than before the update. The software never synced anything and now it works pretty good.

For those wondering, I just tried wirelessly updating. It doesn't work, says "To check for updates, connect your Zune" as though it's not connected (and believe me, it is, when I exit Settings and go into Device, it has "START SYNC" in it's big white button).

I had no problem configuring the wireless before the update. Now, it is working really well. NICE!

Man r u still need the Usb cable to install firmware. I though everything wold be done wirelessly.
ps. I threw away the usb when the new firmware came out on november[smiley=sad]

much improved battery life if your one of the "small percentage" of zune owners affected by battery issues. my zune 30 would not last for 8 hours sitting around now it has almost a full battery. very pleased!!!!!!!!!!!![

What we need is a Software Update... I've been having more problems with the software than anything. It's good they stuck to their word with the firmware though.

my zune 80 seems to run smoother (less jerkiness for all animations)
I dont like it when people just say "zune"... which one? since the 30 has different problems and most likely different firmware.

to all of the cry babies out there complaining about an update: get a life you idiots.

who would complain about an update that (while not needed for my Zune 30 since it has been working perfectly since day one and since the update to 2.1) was much needed for some of the few that had issues with the Zune 30's battery life. Even if it doesnt help you in this case shut up you little internet baby!

Nope, the podcast feature has only been since yesterday. You can resume a podcast that you have left and come back to since the V.2.0 update.

Here's my question: does this firmware update in any way eliminate the issue with the new software where you cannot delete files you've placed on your zune from your comptuer's hard drive without the software doing you the favor of "syncing" it off your freakin zune? I downgraded to the old firmware and software because of that nonsense.

I just got an 80GB zune for christmas and when updating to 2.3 an error code: C00D11CD i've tried to restart my computer and do several othe things but the error code keeps popping up can someon please help me?

Getting the same error C00D11CD. I've looked everywhere on the net and can't find a fix that works. I've got a Zune paperweight that won't update it's firmware and thus can't sync. Merry Christmas to me![smiley=angry]

same error for me too. in the zune software says i must update the firmware on my new 4GB model, but get the C00D11CD fail. Tried all the stuff found here and other sites, still no good. Same thing happens using 3 different PCs running win XP pro sp2. Is this a win XP compatibility issue??? bet an apple device would have been a snap to get running....
