Microsoft to add Ads to the Zune?!

As the title says Microsoft is looking at adding advertisement to the zune. Here is a quote from Matt Rosoff over at Cnet explaining how it will work.

"The demonstration involved a music festival sponsored by Doritos. A musician participating in that festival might create a Zune Social profile containing a small advertisement for Doritos. Users could then become "friends" with this musician, allowing them to see his playlist and perhaps even download free songs on that list (paid for by Doritos). They'd also see a little Doritos logo embedded in the musician's profile, which would appear not only in the Zune software, but also on the actual Zune device whenever they visited that profile."

Now really this won't affect many people unless of course you are willing to see the ads. I think it will be much like Pandora where the ad won't affect the song itself, just what you see while you listen to it. This is definitly something that I wouldn't mind seeing implemented, if there is a song I want that is on a list, I'd download it even with the ad assuming it is free to me.

See zuneinsider.com he has some more info on this. Only when adding a new "famous" friend friend you would see the add.

Why do you need the original album art on your zune while you are listening to your music? Surf your pictures or get some work done while you listen... r-tard

i honestly wouldn't mind, free music is free music, my only query would be are the sponsored tracks going to be encrypteed with DRM. given, they are free, but i would like to avoid DRM when and where possible

hahaha because i'm very very anal about my music, having a flawless music collection is up there in my life goals, its just an unattainable feat, but i won't stop trying

I've heard this will only be on ZuneSocial, not the device. I don't think they could have an interactive ad on the Zune device...

that is true. i see what you mean. since almost all ads are clickable and when clicked opens up a webpage.

but then again they could have a thing that says something like "brought to you by doritos" or something similar like they do on comcast On Demand.. or some video sites how they will insert an advertisement before the video starts.
