The recent firmware update for the iPod Touch costs $9.95 USD and now has been hacked for free downloading on the interwebs . One must ask why Apple would go to such lengths. As all of you know, the recent upgrade to Zune 2.0 and even 2.5 has been free to all zune owners, a move which has been gladly welcomed by Zune owners and a stark contrast to Apple's plans - plans some iPod owners are aware of and are wondering why. Why would Apple need to nickle and dime their iPod Touch owners when the same functions come free to iPhone users?
A recent c|net feature showcasing the hacking of the new firmware has drawn many comments and some go as far as noting how Microsoft seems to value Zune owners more than Apple does of their iTouch owners. One writes, "They clearly are just extorting their users here. MS released their substantial Zune update for free for older devices which included lots of new functionality. I hate to say it, but MS is looking like the nice company looking out for their users, and Apple is looking like the locked in monopoly only trying to make a buck." Another comments, "I just find Apple´s attitude too much of a bummer. Sorry, but you pay a premium for a supposed premium device, and yet you get a dismissive treatment? No, thank you...not for me. Too greedy."
So now, many iTouch users have been religated to downloading a free version from a hack source instead of legitimately downloading it from Apple itself . I wonder how Apple will respond to this. I don't know about you, but I'm so glad Microsoft has done what it's done. It really seems Apple's trying to squeeze every penny from its users at the expense of its reputation. That's just me, but what do you guys think? Is Apple crazy for charging for updates, or is it just me?

Speculation has begun on the next generation Zune and all the talkMicrosoft execshave been giving on games on Zune. This has led to some heavy imaginations and they're starting to rear their ugly head. More after the break..
Let's face it, Zune isn't as ubiquitous as other media players; it can be hard to find another Zune owner out there. But one Los Angeles area Zune owner has taken matters into his/her own hands to find other Zune owners. Using Craigslist's strictly plutonic section, they posted a request to get together to trade songs. The best part of the whole message was when they mention how iPods break too easily. While some may think this is pretty pathetic, Craiglist is a great source to find tons of things. From a job, to what's going on in your community, and even a relationship, so why not us it to find other Zune owners?
The posting has since been taken down, but this begs the question, how do you find other Zune owners?
I know I personally have preached the gospel of Zune since I picked one up over a year ago. In the process, I've got many to convert from the dark side (yes, you know what side I'm talking about). I can tell you it was frustrating at first, but now it seems I can't walk down the mall without finding someone with a Zune.
So how 'bout you? How have you found other Zune owners? Let us know...as always, you can say your piece here, or in the forums...
This time last year, not even a million hits were registered on Zune.net, but with increased attention on Zune due to increased advertising, more and more people are visiting the site these days! Over 2 million visitors in May! Also, of those visitors, Zune was rated 2nd in length of time each visitor stayed at the site (35:26 minutes average).
The top winner of the study is Zune's antithesis Apple Inc. but that's expected since Apple deals with more than just media players.
Over all: Zune placed 6th in overall visitors in May (May '08 in millions, May '07 in Millions, % growth)
Who said a broken heart was bad? I mean sure in relationships, they can suck, but Zune has turned this idea functional! When you fall out of love with a song, it takes but a quick broken heart to remove it from your Zune device for good. It's that easy! Click for more information...
