Luxpro wins legal battle with Apple, plans to countersue for $100m

From the blog...
Luxpro, the Taiwan-based company known for its iPod shuffle knock-off, says it has won a lawsuit filed against it by Apple, and now plans to countersue the iPod maker for $100 million in damages. “We plan to sue Apple in a Taiwanese court before the end of the month and demand $100 million in compensation for the revenues we have lost due to their abuse of their global power,” Wu Fu-chin, Luxpro chairman, told the Financial Times.
In early 2005, Luxpro introduced a digital audio player that was nearly indistinguishable from Apple’s first-generation iPod shuffle. The Super Shuffle, later renamed the Super Tangent, had the same measurements, weight and overall design—including the control pad, backside slider switches and USB port cover—of the iPod shuffle. It also came in 512MB and 1GB sizes like the Apple player.
In August 2005, Apple sought and received an injunction to stop sales of the Luxpro player from the Shihlin District Court in Taipei. Luxpro appealed and won subsequent lawsuits in the Taiwan High Court and the Taiwan Supreme Court. Last month, the Shihlin District Court lifted the original injunction, stating that “the appearances of the two products are significantly dissimilar.”

Zune Wins "Best Portable Audio Device" at IGN

Surprisingly, the Zune won the best "Portable Audio Device" award at the annual awards at IGN. The runnerup was the iPod Shuffle 2G. against Apple is a risky game, and only adventurous consumers will

bad thanks to interesting aesthetics, a bright, animated, and well

Zune installation error: FIX!
By: hougy

This is for those who are stuck at the installation screen for Zune:
I had the same thing, it installs and then it smacks you in the face and says there was an error. Than that's it. Well doesn't that just suck? I am psychic. I predict you have Windows XP Home. Am I right? If so, read on. If not, read it anyways
The error is due to Windows XP Home not having the advanced permission settings as found in Windows XP Professional/2000 (I think).
Each program is set up differently, but they do the same thing. I can't tell you step by step because I did this 6 months ago before I got deployed (Navy).
*NOTE: These may charge for it. I downloaded mine for free off a website, I'm sure you can find a free one as well if you look!*

Zune Software Update: Vista Compatibility
By: lpxxfaintxx

Some people were ticked that the Zune was not compatible with Windows Vista when it was released last month, but Vista still isn't even available
to the general public so in my opinnion these stories were blown out of
proportion. We knew Microsoft would support Vista before the public had a chance to use it, and the Zune software is now compatible with Windows Vista, so that story can be dropped now.

You can download the new Zune Software at the official Zune site .

Zune Firmware 1.2 Released

That's right folks, a new Zune firmware has been released. Apparently, it does not add any new features, but it improves the existing features.

Straight from the update:

This required update will help enhance stability and performance.

For devices being upgraded from Zune firmware version 1.0, this update includes the enhancements provided in Zune firmware version 1.1.

So you might be asking, does this really help? Can you actually notice a difference in the performance? I'll be honest with you. Yes. Definately. After the update, I've been playing around with my Zune for a couple of minutes. Usually, I get the lag image (the one with the circling dot things) every time I view pictures. This time, I went through 450 without a single lag. I also noticed an improvement while switching modes, and switching from videos to music.

<!--

iPhone Launched... But Not By Apple

Zune Loses to Ipod by 1 point in "Prizefight."
By: lpxxfaintxx

From the blog..
For you who don't know, Prizefight is a 'mini-show' that CNet hosts. Basically what they do is compare products side by side. They grade the products on their Design, Interface, Compatibility, Features, and Performance. The results? The ipod won by 1 point. Honestly, I think this review was pretty fair. The only thing I didn't like is they didn't have a round for technical performance. The zune beats the ipod in terms of "power." Considering the Zune's been out for a month, and the ipods been out for 5 years, I think the Zune did a decent job.
Design: Zune 4 - Ipod 4
Interface Zune 5 - Ipod 4
Compatibility: Zune 2 - Ipod 3
Features: Zune 4 - Ipod 5
Performance: Zune 4 - 4

When I first started the site, I never would've guessed that we will reach 10,000 posts. It started out as just a fun thing. It's amazing how fast this site grew. Of course, I wouldn't have come anywhere near this successful without our helpful, contributing staff. Make sure to thank Putis, Mys Videl, DUI, Phunkmaster, Zuneologist, and Yensed. I've been tracking down the zune like an eagle since day one. It's been more than half a year already... wow!
