No, it's not a project to see which color would look best on a Zune (which purple wins hands down IMO) but it does have something to do with Zune's future. More after the click...

Rumors have been swirling about a project up in Redmond called the
"Pink and Purple Project" where it's said they're already testing Windows Mobile
ready versions of Zune for cell phones. Details are scetchy at this
point, but it's true MS has been looking to expand the Windows Mobile
platform to include some form of media integration. Microsoft, in November 2007, bought Musiwave and commented on how this aquisition could bring media one step closer to the Windows Mobile integration. "Bringing Musiwave on board would provide an opportunity for Microsoft to
explore new areas in the mobile space previously untapped, and to showcase the
power of software plus services," Microsoft senior VP of Mobile Communications
Business, Pieter Knook, said in a statement. Microsoft VP in charge of music
(and object of Jon Stokes' mancrush),
J Allard, added that Musiwave would "bring key assets" and help the company
evolve its vision of Connected Entertainment. [via arstechnica.com]
What is very probable is we will see some form of media integration in future versions of Windows Mobile, but whether it will be Zune-based, that is still left to be seen. Trust me, as news comes my way, I'll let y'all know. This makes sense to start bringing all of the entertainment businesses of MS together as we're already seeing with Zune/Xbox 360/Windows Media Center. And, of course, no rumor would be complete without patent requests, and further speculation. [idea via ihaveazune.com ]
