A new Entertainment Xbox 360 is reported to be in the works.  Toshiba and Microsoft are teaming up to integrate some new features that some think should have already been incorporated in existing Xbox’s. 

The new Xbox will have:

1. -A Built in HD-DVD silent drive
2. -Built in wireless capabilities
3. -Built in HDTV tuner
4. -A port to connect MP3 players – probably Zune compatible
5. -Expanded memory capacity
   

The new Xbox is not slated to be available until late 2008 or early 2009, but speculation is already mounting how this could give added functionality to Zune, and maybe what we could see from a Zune 3.0.  How cool would it be if you could record HDTV and then sync it to your Zune to take with you!  Also, could this mean the next generation of Zune have HD imaging (since 2009 is when everything is going HD/digital).   Maybe HD digital radio in the Zune?  Definitely looks promising, and this would make sense from a recent agreement between the 2 companies…

I disagree, if the new zune is any indication of where MS is going, I'm sure that they will try to provide some updates for current xbox360 owners to allow for some of these features. the only way they would destroy their base is to introduce an entirely new console with a brand new processor, etc. the 360 is not due for a major overhall at least for a few more years. What is quite obvious is that the 360 has a wider fan base than the ps3. The reason why is quite apparent, apart from the great titles out on the 360 (with the ps3 desperately trying to follow suit) the xbox 360 gives the best bang for the buck. You dont need the number crunching power the ps3 is capable of, not for atleast another 4 years, this can be attributed to the enormous difference in software and hardware capabilities. Taking into account the average life span of a console to be 6 years, by the end of which a next gen version of the 360 will be out..the developers of ps3 titles will still be harnessing the power of the cell processor et all. Which means that just when the ps3 seems to be getting better than the 360 in terms of graphics, bang! the new 360 will send it down the drain. Pity is'nt it?
