We’ve only touched the “surface” of Zune’s potential (hahaha…bad
pun. Sorry). Microsoft are unveiling a new table computer that allows people to
interact with it in whole new ways. Imagine a table, but instead of a wood or
plastic surface the entire table is one big screen that you can touch, draw on
with your hands, look at photos instantly by placing your wireless digital
camera on it, order drinks on etc. Multiple users can use it at the same time doing different things, via its "multi-touch" interface. Underneath the hood, making all this
possible, is a Vista computer, five cameras, a
projector and a screen. And it’s a pricey unit, estimated at about $10,000.
The video here from On10.net shows some very cool
Zune-relevant footage about 15 minutes in, but the whole thing is worth
checking out. Other sources say that this technology is going to be released this
November in selected hotels and T Mobile stores. We keep hearing
unsubstantiated rumours about Zune filling stations – maybe those are these and
maybe we’ll be seeing some of these Surface computers in Starbucks round
November too?
