Our own forum member Federal111 gives us his review on the M604 Altec Lansing Speaker and how well it performs also the apperance.
Brand: Altec Lansing Item Description: M604 Altec Lansing Speaker Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price: $79.99 - $164.99 Manufacturer's Description: Your Zune is ideal when you’re on the go. But when you’re hanging around the house, wouldn’t it be great to fill the room - any room - with incredible sound? Introducing the Altec Lansing M604 powered audio system. It’s the complete package: Striking good looks, plus rich, clear sound from its four custom-designed speakers. What’s more, the M604 is surprisingly affordable, so you can still send the kids to college. Just place your Zune into the M604’s built-in dock and enjoy.

His Take: If you are a minimalist like me, you'll love this speaker. The M604
features a dock pad for the Zune along with a AUX cable included in
case you need the M604 for other uses. When listening to the M604,
sound wise the sound doesn't over treble or over bass the sound in
distortion. The music sounds clear and great. The base is great too but
the volume of the base is too low to make the M604 seem like a louder
speaker. The volume is controlled along the top of the speaker or via
the infrared remote that is included. The range on the remote isn't the
best but it does the job. The reason the M604 is deemed as a minimalist
speaker is because of it's nice contemporary look with. With only one
cord (power) coming from the M604, the image of the M604 is neat and
bold. The M604 that I have currently sits on my nightstand, although
the M604 doesn't have a clock, I use it as a base for my Zune for
charging and as its resting place when I'm not listening to it. The
M604 also looks great in a living or family room on a corner table or
on a work desk in the office. The front of the M604 is dominated by the
speaker grill. A clever system of green LED lights are hidden under the
grill. The LED lights light up as you adjust the volume, treble or bass
up and down. The speaker itself is about 14'' long 8'' tall and is
about 4 '' thick. In the back there is a AUX jack, power jack,
composite jack and a headphone jack (I have no idea why). One of my
complaints about the M604 doesn't have a jack to allow multiple M604s
to be linked together to create a more broad sound throughout a room.
Another downside to the M604 is that, despite it's sexyness with its
gray and chrome color scheme, the colors don't flow with the brown
Zune. Great speaker but less sexy with a brown Zune in it rather than a
white or black. There is also a M602 which is basically an ugly M604
for Ipoops.
Overview
Pros: - Treble and bass doesn't distort music
- Wireless Remote
- Great contemporary look
- No messy wire, only one cord on the M604
Cons: - Volume of the bass isn't high enough
- Remote range isn't that great
- Lack of clock
- Does not look as well with Brown or Green Zune
Rating: 9 out of 10 Do buy if: If you're not a hardcore listener and just listen to music during free time in a quiet enviornment then this is the speakers for you. Don't buy if: If you have a Brown or Green Zune. Online buying suggestions: Check the list out HERE.
