My 2 year old and 5 year old have had my zune for hours to watch movies. I have seen them drop it from the table, from a hospital bed, from the car while climbing out and more. No damage resulted from their durability tests. I could live without the Dora episodes on my Zune though.

I think the ipod's screen is plastic... or at least coated with it.

Ipods use plastic coating/screen.
I dropped my Zune 4ft high on concrete and nothing happened to it, not even a scratch.

I wish my iPod or archos was that durable.

I was working on Zune-Linux homebrew stuff, I got angry, yelled at my Zune "Why can't this damn thing be hacked!?", whacked it on the desk really hard, and it worked fine. :P

I have a bad habit of kicking anything that falls (almost put a cellphone through a wall like this), and well I was in the parking garage at work the other day and dropped my zune, kicked it and bounced it off the cement floor. Didn't even phase the thing.

Friend dropped her Ipod got the sad face of death, is all scratched to hell. I said I'd try and fix it but damn, thing looks like it's been through a war. Those things just don't hold up.

lol im loving the corrosive baby saliva. But anyway, im too careful with my zune, ive had it for a few months now and its only been dropped once and that was by my friend. I even bought the tough skin for it (looks amazing btw). Im just scared that if it breaks i wont have the money to replace it. and that means... no music...

Haha man one day your going to kick it so far you won't be able to find it. Or it will hit someone in the head, and if they are still conscious they will say "kool zune from the sky" take it and run. Either way it's funny.

Ive had my Zune since mid-December, being in the UK if it breaks im completely screwed, but as soon as I had the thing in my hands I realised this wasn't gonna need kid-gloves.

It's been going around everywhere in my pocket ever since, and it's fine. Only cosemetic damage is from where I prized the case open to install a higher capacity battery (and didnt have the proper tools).

Wow, I put mine in an invisible shield a few days after I got it. I miss the slick feeling of it though so after hearing these stories I may strip it bare. I've dropped my zune a few times, no more than pocket height though, never kicked it at anybody...

But they might be extra picky like apple is. Apple didn't give my friend a new nano because there was a slight dent in the back. Bull****
Same thing with mine the damn click wheel stopped working and no buttons would work anymore and they said sorry there's a dent.
In the i got a zune so it wasn't all bad. But had they fixed it I probably would have been happy and instead of a zune buy a ipod video.

I dropped mine earlier today and there is a crack on the top left metal border of the screen so I'd try to be more careful now.

I feel different then.

Dropped my 30GB Zune a couple of times while had it sitting on my computer desk onto my basement floor. I didn't really notice until about 3 months later, my Zune device was responding very sluggish. For example, if I were to listen to certain music, the device would freeze instantly. Sometime it would seem to be playing as the time would continue going, but the device would not respond to any of the buttons instantly. I was quite mad I couldn't listen to my favorite songs and moved onto listening to Winamp on my PC (these months were Summer Break.. not much of an outdoor person..) Also, one of my friends is... or was a Zune owner until he was listening to his in bed and the Zune fell, giving him the 'Zune Support' screen.

Okay. So, one day, I got really mad. Not like Hulk-mad. I just really hated my Zune acting slow. I'd find myself CONSTANTLY restarting it (hold back, up and circle button. It's whats been working for me.) and this day really got to me. So.. I threw it about 3 feet away from me on my computer desk. I picked it up, and now it's telling me to call Zune Support. I called, Mexcian accent dude was telling me that they were sending a box for me to send it in after telling me to do some other method which failed.

Got a NEW Zune after about... a month and a half sent to me from where ever I sent mine to. Included instructions about what to do and what they did. Basically, they literally gave me a new Zune. Not mine. I confirmed this as of the new number on the back they told me to register or confirmed they registered and the screen was crystal clear, the Zune felt brand new like out of the box, and it was smoother than my acne infested skin. Ah. I feel in love again.

Unfortunately and just recently, I dropped it again after misplacing it in my lap getting up to get a haircut one day and it falls on a slippery floor. Now, I tried listening to all of my newly added songs and they gave the same symptoms my old Zune had... but only with recently added material. My pictures load slower as it takes longer to access the hard drive to show the pictures and I haven't tried looking at videos.

Honestly, I loved my Zune. Its getting me through this hell of an educational facility they call 'High School' and I'm not getting an iPod. My warrenty is gone and buying another one online (as of my knowledge is the only place to renew it) is not happening because of a recent credit card scam. I was /wrists when I saw the title for this thread because I wanna know where the hell all of you are getting your Zunes.
