I JUST ordered a Zune but I have (IMO) very good reasons for not getting an iPod.
1. Limited to a SINGLE computer. That would drive me NUTS. 2. Touch pad. They scare me, because no matter how good they are, they are more prone to failure then a button. 3. No internal radio. What can I say, I use it sometimes. 4. PRICE. Ya... I don't thin I need to say anymore. 5. I don't like going with the flow of things. My first MP3 player was a Dell DJ, and I loved it. It's not made anymore, so I had to get something else. ![]() |

I had been given (via my own request) a 4th gen iPod for xmas about 4 years ago. It was loyal, still is were I to want it to be, but it was time for a change. My main concern was finding a player that was good looking, had a good interface both button wise and software wise, and let me customize with wallpapers.
I played with a friend's iPod video and hated it. I was never a big fan of the click wheel and she has told me horror stories about not being able to get video on it unless she bought it from itunes. My mom has a Creative Zen: M so I played with it a bit. Hated the buttons and they hated me. Then I saw the Zune. Huge screen, simple yest click-wheel style interface, great screen quality, 'twas love. Best of all the screen is large enough that watching movies with subtitles isn't awkward.

Reasons I got a Zune and not another iPod:
1) I went through a plethora of cases in order to keep my precious iPod pristine and failed at it. Zune not easily scratched 2) Ended up having to by some silly plastic shield to guard it against damage which in turn made me have to stare at bubbles. See above 3) Zune has a bigger screen that .5" does make a huge difference. 4) I actually think Apple is very anti-consumer and the iPod is the pinnacle of that. 5) I hate the whole white earbuds are an icon kinda thing. That sorta thing just makes you a victim here in philly. 6) I hate Steve Job worshipers and hate how whenever someone other then Jobs does something its non-existent but then apple steals it gives it a cute name and then its a pinnacle of technology. 7) I like being different so by not having an iPod I get a more attention and questions as to what is wrong with me and why did I not buy an iPod. 8) The iTunes music store is evil or so I like to think. It brainwashed peopel into accepting lower quality audio and draconian DRM schemes and has no subscription based model.

Reasons I got a Zune instead of a new iPod Classic to replace my slowly dying 4g iPod Photo
1. Sound quality. sound quality. sound quality. The iPod Classic sounds noticeably inferior to my previous iPod through the HP jack while the Zune sounds fantastic. 2. Apple. I'm beginning to get fed up with Apple's iPods. The quality is diminishing and I'm sick of having to buy a new iPod in order to get new features. 3. The firmware/software update for the Zune also going to Zune 30 owners. That is terrific and is definitely a better way to treat your customers. (Hear that, Jobs?) 4. The Zune is sexy. IMHO it looks a hell of a lot better than the iPods. (This coming from a loyal iPod user since the 1st generations were released) 5. The Zune's screen, while having the same resolution as the iPod Video, looks incredible. 6. The FM tuner is pretty cool. I never listen to the radio, but this might make me actually start to listen to my local stations. 7. I much prefer the Zune's UI. For being button controlled, it works flawlessly. 8. A bunch of other small things like being able to change the background picture, etc. |

I'm a big guy so i like to have something that
can go on my hand without that strange feeling as if i could crush it with my hand as if it were a soda can. Plus Microsoft is trying to try out different things like making a game console(Big surprise when i heard about it). Then the music business and curious on whats next. Here are a few reasons why i chose it. -Fills my hand -Great screen size -Comfortable grip -Feels, Looks, and is much more sturdier than and ipod -Hell it's made by Microsoft (Didn't hate anything they made yet) -Great selection of colors(love the brown&green 2 bad Costco only had black) -Ability to share music(which wasn't what i expected to be but whatever) -And FM Radio |

My Nano fell in the toilet and I have played with my friend's Zune and its fun! The display is monstrous compared to my dead Nano's.

I went to Best Buy three plus weeks ago with the intent to buy the new Ipod Nano. I had made up my mind that I wanted the red one and nothing was going to stop me from getting it. That is of course until I laid eyes on the pink Zune. I stood there for a long time just looking at it. I questioned the sales man so much till (think) I scared him off.
Regardless, I decided to go with the Zune and it is the best thing I ever did. Prior to owning the Zune, I use to have an Ipod. I liked it but it was so annoying to add songs and delete songs...Anyway, since owning the Zune, it is a pleasure to sit on the computer and add my songs and pictures, and then put it on and listen to all of my favorite songs. I even have a clip of my youngest child on it ![]() Anyway, I am just rambling on. I think the Zune has more to offer someone that the Ipod. |

Hello all, new user here, and also new Zune user. I got mine from woot.com refurbed for $99, this is my best tech purchase yet. I chose the Zune over the iPod because everyone has an iPod! It is like people are freaking sheep, all you hear people talking about is the iPod, iPod this and iPod that, I wanted to be different.
This is my 2nd mp3 player ever, My first one was a 20gb Sony NW-HD3 which I got for $100 at Frys, it was pink and nobody bought it. It was a nice machine but was crippled by crappy Sonicstage software. I have had my Zune for nearly a week and I love it, I will be purchasing the 80gb one when it comes out. The only things I don't like about the Zune is that you cant use WMP11, the screen isn't half VGA, isn't a real widescreen, needs more things dealing with wifi like shoutcast streaming and browsing, and MS needs to come out with a 160gb model. It can't be an iPod killer without even having at least the same amount of storage. But even with those niggles, I won't be purchasing an iPod anytime soon. The iPod touch looks cool but you need more than 16gb of memory. |

cause, i've never had an ipod, i had the dell dj, and i thought the ipod was dumb, when my dell dj got outdated, and couldn't upgrade the firmware, or put music on it.. i decided upon a new one, so i started comparing prices.. and a 4 gig nano for 150, or a 30 gig zune for 200, now i got alot of music and it keeps going, so i went for the better 30 gig zune, n my buddy has one so i liked how it handled, now i got mine, i like it way better then anything i had and i was able to extract files off my dell dj to add another 1000 songs onto my zune. so i'm content, i plan on maxing this baby out lol.

Well, I got mine because a coworker recommended it, I liked the way it looked, great screen resolution, screen size, don't care for Apple, drive size...hmmm got to think about the rest. I am very happy w/my decision so far. I've had mine a little over a month.

The big screen, customizable background, FM tuner, full screen album art... *drool* plus my previous player was an iPod photo and it didn't feel like a wise move for me to go with another iPod. Wanted to try something new. Very glad I did.

The radio, bigger screen and figuring MS would take the wireless function to new heights and really make it very useful.

my mom let me buy any mp3 i wanted and i got a sandisk and the earphone input didn't work. the same thing happened again w/ the same product. so i waited till the zune came out. i was gonna get an ipod but i noticed that i doesn't feel right when you hold because it is way to small and i looks like i t was meant for girls. the zune was the perfect size for me. i still don't regret have a zune at all.

I hate apple and I am an MS fanboy, among other reasons. I just needed a reason NOT to get an ipod.
