I got an iPod 3rd gen like a couple of years ago, just for the hell of it (there weren't really any big HD players out there then).
Used it for 2 months, and got complete aggro of the sound of the thing. Basically, it sucks. The player was really slow too, plus it broke like 3 times. So i started looking for a replacement, and bought the Sony NW A3000 (big purple pill thing). That was ffing awesome. The sound had never sounded so well! But after almost 1 1/2 years of loyal service (and that, my friends, is a LONG time in geek-world for 1 gadget) the HD (20GB) was completely stacked with my music, and i realized it was time to look for something bigger. No way i was going back to the IsuckPod, and ive always been a huge Microsoft-fan (kinda grew up DOSsing my way around the playground), so i was hugely disappointed when I found out that the Zune wouldnt come out in Holland for like another year! But, my Zuneloving friends, there is a little thing called 'Marktplaats' in Holland (kinda like eBay), and there it was, a brown Zune, mint condish, for just 200 euros! (i think around 170 dollars, not sure) Its coming this monday, and i CANT WAIT. EDIT: Ill keep you all posted on how the installation and music transferring went, since I live in Europe and have to use 'adjusted' software; stay zuned. The reason why I chose a Zune over the Ipod was because, 1. I hate apple 2. Microsoft makes awesome products "xbox 360" 3. The Zune can be customizable just like a computer 4. Ipods all look the same and the next product they might make is the IRACK or the IRAN, I mean seriously what is with the "I's". Apple makes terrible names for their products, atleast microsoft is different.

I got a zune because I hate the iPod commercials AND that smug Mac guy. He's the definition of smug. Grr... i hate him from how he dresses, to how his blood gets pumped through his veins....
![]() Also because i run a few wireless products like the Nintendo DS Lite, and a wireless network at home, so thinking that there would be mods in the future, this would be a good addition to that. Would be cool to be able to control the zune through my DS. And even IF the Zune never existed, i would have gotten the Creative Zen instead anyway. Apple will not get any money from me, anymore. |

I bought a 5th gen Ipod last year... then took it back and exchanged it because of an irritiating pause bug that I thought was a malfunctioning unit. With the second unit I learned that if you didn't turn off the ipod before unplugging from headphones, car stereo, etc that it could cause the unit to hang in it's pause state...
I gave Apple a year to resolve this issue and then moved on. I bought the Zune and all is not roses with it either. It plays music fine, but some of the functionality I was used to isn't provided by M$ out of the box. I find humor in the fact that on the Apple I couldn't copy music off of the box but I could play it off of of the box with their software... the exact opposite is what I get with the Zune... easy to copy off, difficult if not impossible to play from the box... I could use the IPOD as a USB attached drive and am not quit eso successfull with the Zune... BUT it plays each time I press play... and it appears that others are carrying my above issue's forward and working towards work arounds... I think this would be an awesome little box with a micro linux kernel on it... |

My reason is quite simple:
Because a mac product will NEVER touch my computer. I'm sorry, but I have standards.

I researched a lot of mp3 players. What sold me on the zune was the big screen and HD space, and a friend of mine was having a load of trouble with his ipod. Plus, zune being a MS product, I knew someone would hack the hell out of it. The price was a plus and the wireless feature has good potential. I had experience with itunes and didn't like it at all. I don't like quicktime either. I thought apple was inferior in many ways. I don't buy something because it's "hot", I buy to suit my needs. My home network and work network is all MS, so why would I buy an apple product? My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I figured it was time for an mp3 player so I asked for a zune, and was very happy to get one. Actually, I'm glad she got it for me so I wouldn't have to make an unjustified(in her eyes) purchase on Dec. 26th and hurt her feelings or piss her off. If you're married, you know where I'm coming from. It is everything I expected it to be and I'm very pleased with the product and looking forward to updates, hope to be just as pleased in the future.

At first I wanted the iPod. I heard it held thousands of songs and everyone had one. I asked my dad for one, but I had to get good grades for it.
6 months later I heard MS was making an "iPod killer" and was interested. Still wanted an iPod. 6 months later I photoshop my grades and talk to someone about what I should get. He said iPod after a series of confusing thought changes (iPod, Zune, iPod) and when we went to Wal-Mart, I chose the Zune. I hated it for a while but now I love my Zune. I named it The Deprived, after my XBL gamertag, but then I changed my GT and left it the same as the Zune has unused features hackers found, and then I changed it to my nickname, Nathan Lawliet.

I pretty much set my mind on a zune a few months back, so when the halo 3 one came around I reserved one and bought it, decided I didn't mind getting one off of ebay for less so I ebayed it and got a black zune (then to find I can get all the content on here!!!) and I'm VERY happy with it. Cheaper than an ipod 30 gig, and it's just different. Plus the screen is the perfect size. Pwns the ipod, while being not as big as the 4-7" screen multimedia devices and still has a tv output should I so desire to share my music. Absolutly the easiest device I've used in a loooong time as well (im a gadget guy so this took literally seconds to figure everything out). Dare I say my mom who can't do email without help half the time could probably figure this thing out. ZUNE +1

The reason I chose Zune over Ipod was the fact I can convert my videos to WMV format and my music to WMA. I find MS video and audio format better and more compact than MP3 and I don't like quick time.

I got my zune because of all the cool features and because i think that Apple have had their glory and now its time for Microsoft to make a stand.
