i walked in the circuit city store returning my headphones and i was going to buy a cheap mp3 player for running and a psp....then a couple of people were looking at these open box items....i didn't know they had one.....out of my curiosity i bent down to see what else was there (cause it was mostly ipods..lol) then way in the back sat two lonely zunes.....i asked how much it was and it was only $199.... he opened it for me and made me feel the zune....at first it felt heavy but then i fell in love with it....the big screen was a big factor for me......i was actually considering buying it before but thought i should just buy a cheap mp3 player to run with and a psp for pics,movie and stuff and that'll save me some money since psp is only $165...the zune is now perfect because it was cheap and is in perfect condition(it didn't even feel like it was used) it was brown and the other one is black(that one was for $210, just becasue of the color).....i didn't hesitate and said i'll buy it.....i had to return it though because the screen was had a cracking sound but since they lowered the price i just bought an unopened one.....now i have a white zune and i love it!
btw in my opinion the white looks smaller than the rest...probably cause the doubleshot is clear

I had a gen2 10 gig ipod for years, don't really remember how long I had the thing.
I loved it for the fact it was a 10 gig HDD and I could store all my music on it for the train ride to work and what ever.
I just needed an upgrade and really wanted to play video more than anything.
I have been anti-apple for a couple years now, about the time they started the slandering ad campaign against microsoft. Besides, apple seems too much like an 'i'm a tech ignorant prat but look what i paid $300 for, isn't it shiny' company.
I loved the interface when I tried out the zune in a shop. That was another of the big sellers for me. ipod interface is so terribly designed.
i got my zune as a christmas present at the same time evryone else were getting thier gay ipod nanos, but i wanted the zune because i needed something that wasnt gonna break the first time i drop it, ipods break too easily, and they were both the same price so why the hell not, and its a hell of a lot easier to organize the music with the zune software, if im borrowing a friends ipod, when im looking for songs, i would see the same album listed like 4 times and ill see like 5 copies of the same song, thats annoying and a waste of space. And ape is gay
just so that your post doesn't confuse other people... when a song's listed more than once it's not going to waste space... unless they have more than one copy of that mp3.

I'm too tired to read the previous posts in this thread, but reading the title, I'm going to share my answer....I've been brainwashed by Microsoft at a very young age. Thus stating, I never cared for "Jobs" as much as I did for "Gates."
When I heard Apple was coming with their mp3 player called the "iPod" first thing I thought of was a new name for it.... "iSuck" or "iM-gay"
Zune, well....it's an odd name as well, don't get me wrong, but it sure as hell beats anything with an "i" preceding its Alias.
everyone i work with has the ipod 30gb. not really into it cause of the screen size. have to be diff so Zune for me. JUST HOPE THAT MOVIE DOWNLOADS COME OUT SOON!!!!!!!!!
Because i had i hate Apple with a passion and I was their b*tch for 3 years when i had one. It finally conked out on me so I started to look for a replacment and the Zune a was perfect choice, especially over the video iPod [bleh]. I also looked at the creative Zen, but dam a 4.3 in screen?! Can you say, brick. EDIT: oh and Steve Jobs is creepy.

I got my zune purely on the fact of what could/will be available once the firmware is hacked (due to the wifi possibilities). I've seen where the iPod hacking is now, and i know it takes a while, but once its open, the Zune will be far more superior.
That, and i really like the poo brown color of my zune for some odd reason :p
I started reading reviews on the Zune and really though I'd want one. After I fried my 6gig Zen by hooking my front usb up wrong fried my motherboard and zen player. But enough of that. I got my Zune with the leather from Criegslist in a trade it had been used one time and I got it for $60.00 worth of computer parts and two hours or repair. But I love the size of the hard drive and the screen is really clear and the sound is great and the ear buds even fit in my ears.I cant beilive how much videos i can get on this thing. Oh and I hate the commercial ness of the I pod. And I tunes suck.
I got mine yesterday, june 16, 2007, i choose zune over ipod because my sister got an ipod vid. and i really dont like it. Also i want to be different and i have and xbox 360 they said its compatible with 360. I got a black one one and the home A\V kit
I had a 20Gb 4th gen iPod for years and it worked absolutly perfectly with no problems what-so-ever for the entire time. It was getting kinda out of date and I started looking for a replacement but never actually bought anything.
One of the main reasons why was because I didn't want to loose all my playcounts and ratings I'd racked up over the years...
Then the other day I was ripping a song off my iPod using a program called EphPod to put in a video and while doing so my PC crashed.
Upon starting it up again I found the file that held all the playcounts and ratings etc was corrupted and I would have to format my iPod. Since I had lost the main reason I was keeping it I decided to get a new MP3 player.
I looked at the 5th gen iPod but I don't like the look of it, the proportions are all wrong imo. I looked at the Zen.. didn't like so much.
I'd wanted a Zune since it came out so I decided to get one of those. Harder than it sounds since I'm in the UK and I can't just pop into a shop and get one so I ordered one that is being sent from the US as I type this. Should be here within a week.
