Well, I had a bunch of money from Christmas and everyone I knew and their brother had gotten an iPod touch. I do not really like iPods, and I couldn't get one even if I did because all of my music was in wma format, from owning a previous mp3 player. I checked ebay and found a 30G classic Zune for just under a hundred bucks. Don't know if I got a good deal, but I am enjoying it very, very much.

I got my first mp3 player for around 50 bucks when i was 11 or 12. It was a sandisk, i couldnt tell you the model. But it amazed me and i would eventually upgrade to a 1 gig sandisk. About a year or two later i ran out of space, and was hungry for an ipod. So i ebayed a 2 gb nano, and at first thought it was amazing. But about a year later i ran out of space, and needed a new player. i was thinkin about another ipod, but it was so darn expensive, and m bro told me to get a zune. i took his advice and got a 30 gig black zune on ebay for a little over $100 and i was hooked. Im still learning how i can get the most out of it, but i would take it over the ipod anyday...

I had been researching for a couple of months, to replace a Zen Xtra 40gb, that still works, but only on the power adapter. I don't know how many articles I read, but it seemed that the zune was getting grudging respect from the reviewers, even though it seemed like the media darling ipod got the shiny star. The things that stood out about the zunes were.

1. The Pass.. I love it that I can download what I want to, without having to purchase it first. A 30 second preview on some songs is not enough sometimes.

2. The build of the zune is superior to the ipod in my opinion. It looks and feels like a well built piece of hardware. The ipod on the other hand looks to me like they're going more towards it looking like a piece of sculpted art. I'm afraid if I sneeze too hard, it'll break in half.

3. The zune is a bit heavier. Some people might not like that, but I do. I want to be reminded that a zune is in the pocket, before the clothing gets tossed in the washer.

4. the screen is readable. I have enough of a vision problem, that the ipod screen is too little, and the zune screen is just right.

5. FM tuner... I live in a pretty rural setting. If the power goes out, I want a fast way to catch weather reports, and breaking news as it happens. I also like the fact that on most of the radio stations around here, the song name is displayed. That way, I know what to look for. Haven't attempted the purchase from radio feature yet.

6. It seems that a lot of what you pay for an ipod is based on the Apple name.

7. The zune sounds better in the headphones, and over my A/V receiver than the ipod does. Maybe it's just my perception, but it seems that MS really worked on the audio processing hardware in the Zune. I can appreciate that from my Creative Zen days. Ipods just sound tinny to me.

After all of the consideration, it was just a matter of finding a good deal on the zune.
I got mine through Newegg, with an A/V dock, and saved a pretty good deal of money. Yay newegg! I also had the opportunity to try out an Apple Classic 160 for a week. I put some music on it for a friend. It just didn't sound that good to me.

  1. Loathe iTunes. Have both iTouch & iClassic in household. All of us hate the software.
  2. I found the ZunePad superior to the Touch Wheel
  3. FM Tuner = 96.7 KCAL Rocks. 96.7 Freaking Rocks!
  4. iPod looks cool but feels whimpy in hand. I like my Zune's presence and weight in my pocket.
  5. Speaking of presence the screen on the Zune was bigger. Easier for subtitles on my anime.
  6. I didn't want to look like one of them hipsters. I rebel! hell yea!
  7. Like Gears of War so got the Gears of War edition.
  8. The fact MS still supports their older hardware generations made me confident about the future

I would have listed Zune Pass but I don't subscribe. Maybe if I got a second 16Gb flash based Zune I would consider but not ATM.

For me the main reason that i went with the Zune over the iPod was because i dont like apple. The onther reason was that no one in my college had one so i thought "why not get something no one has seen" as soon as i got mine about 15 other people that i know ended up getting them as well

I chose Zune over Ipod for the Following

1. Hatred of Itunes
2. Itunes sucks
3. Ipod classic died after 13 months and it was almost as much to repair as purchase new.
4. Zune Interface
5. Ease of use

Did I mention that ITUNES sucks?????

I got my Zune because...
iPods are over rated
iPods don't have near as many features (except the touch)
And I would have gotten a touch, but they're to small (my zune 120 is full) and they are WAY to expensive for how little storage you get.

Sound Quality, plain and simple.

Headphone Out is generally regarded as superior to the iPod Classic line (ignoring the Touch/iPhone, as that's a different market).

Default My Story

I was first drawn to the Zune because it was not an iPod, and I liked to be different. But then the wireless features lured me in further! I have owned a 30g, and currently have an 8g and a 80g and I love them. So far I have converted 4 people over to Zune. And one of those people has convterted a person

If my lady friend had told me she wanted an Ipod, I would have scooped up and Ipod, and most likely I would have bought one too. And I wouldn't be here running my yap! I be on the Ipod board!!

I trust her taste, after all she picked me!!

Before i had my zune, i had a creative H10 i think? i had it for a couple years before the hard drive died. this was right around the time the zune came out. i saw it and looked into it and fell in love with it. the great look, the screen that is much bigger than most any other mp3 player out there. ive had my white zune up til last summer when a drunk girl at my friends house dropped it and broke it. then i got a red 80gig this fall. i love it, but still love the look of the 30gigs so much more! but i needed more room anyways.
i also hate ipods, their too damn popular and everyone has one. when the zune came out, i saw a lot more potential in it than the ipod.

Why did I choose the Zune over the Ipod?
Because I lost my Ipods or they Got Stolen
The Original Zune was Huge and i wanted something Big to keep an eye on it
The Screen was Bigger and I liked the Brickish Look
AFter my First Aune died I bought the Newer 80 GIg model because It was pretty Cheap and it had lots of Space.

Why did I choose a Zune?

1. The 3.5" screen. I used the video function far more than I thought I would with my Sansa e280 and it's small 1.8" screen. I wanted something bigger with better video features.

2. Big enough capacity to hold my entire music library plus video. That eliminated the ipods. The Touch has a big screen but low capacity, the Classic has large capacity, small screen.

3. Decent support. Sansa discontinued the e200 series I owned and support really started to dry up. No firmware updates. Before I bought one I read that every time an update for Zune comes out everyone gets it all the way back to the first 30's. So no outdated, unupdateable models for the Zune.

4. Real world reviews. Not the garbage from the Cult of ipod. The Zune gets better marks in sound quality. They are also noted for their toughness. Ipods are delicate.

5. I really dislike itunes.

I switched because of 3 things, Apples shotty service, i had a 30 Gig 1st Gen and it broke within 4 months and Apple WOULD NOT replace it (they said it was tampered with) and i absolutely babied that thing, and Itunes *shivers*, and anyone that has had an Ipod knows that Itunes is horrible. But when i was bored one day walking around Fred Myers with 300 bucks i found the 30 gig brown (about a month after it came out) and imediatly bought it. And i had it for i think 2 and a half years and then i got the 120 black this cristmas and i absolutly love it.
