Second gen... since they have flash versions, not as bulky, touch pad, and better battery life.

Zune 30, because it has an equalizer, displays 60 frames per second, and its processor runs faster.

I have a 30 GB but I wanted the Second Gen.s. I will trade my 30 GB for a 80 GB because of the big screen.

Zune 30! It just feels so reliable, like i could just throw it at a brick wall or something [not that i'm going to or anything]. But outside of this reason, Zune 80 is better

2nd gen.

The interface is much better, and the 80GB has like much more memory in a small package AND a bigger screen.

But in terms of features, the 1st gen was better. I just like the five star rating thing better XDDD

i started with a 30gb and i loved it, but the battery was just so lack luster and i also really wanted the scrowly touch pad thing. (i bought the first lg chocolate cell phone like a week before the second one came out and if you know phones then you'll know the first one doesn't have a scrowly wheel and the second one does and i've been pissed about that for the past year and a half and i guess it just kind of transferred over to the zune) but yeah as soon as i got my 2nd gen i missed my first one i mean i don't regret it cuz the battery is so much better. but every once in a while my room mate will catch me playing with his first gen...

for everyone who's so anti-first gen, try a 30GB zune, replace the battery with something more hefty, and replace the hard drive with like 120GB 1.8" ZIF IDE hard drive, and tell me the first gen's not better. It doesn't have horrible battery life, just a tiny battery (under 1amp). It would have more storage space if you put a bigger hard drive in it. The first gen hardware is better, it CAN do 60FPS on the screen, screen is less than 10% smaller than the 80GB zune, has the fastest zune CPU, and like others have said, ITS A TANK! who cares about the squircle? honestly I like the clicky D-pad.. and if it were SO important, you could probably adapt the squircle daughterboard into the first gen motherboard and chassis.

I have a feeling that some people, like myself, would be a bit uncomfortable modding the hardware on their device.

Zune 80 - Very nice...

I really don't think modding the hard drive and battery in one counts lol. Is it really the same player anymore? Just a thought

a change of battery is just an increase in battery life, no real system modification involved.

A bigger hard drive (storage wise) does not change the appearance or functionality of the 30GB zune, it just increases total space available for movies and whatnot. It's not changing the Player, as the player is the firmware and the mother board. the storage media is NOT the player, just a single component of the player. My opinion is that it would be the same device with improved storage capacity and/or more battery life. Same Chassis, same board, same interface, same everything really.
