I got my first Zune on Christmas 2006. I was black and besides it being a little big, it was very appealing with the large screen and decent memory capacity. At first, the Zune software did not install on my computer, it said is was incompatible with my computer. But one fast call to Microsoft cleared all that up.
About 2 months of regular usage later, the screen suddenly became dark and and hard to see, like somehow the contrast had been set waaaaay to high. But I ignored the problem at first. It was still alright to play music, but videos were dark and un-enjoyable. Then 20 or so days later then that, the srcreen went gray, I couldn't see anything but... ya know a gray screen. When I reset the device, the Zune logo would appear for a split second and then melt away like when you turned off a Gameboy Advance. This whole problem was a very strange phenomenon to me, even with a respectable amount of knowledge on electronic devices. So I called in to Microsoft and requested a box to send it in to be repaired. About 14 days later I received and brand new Zune. Yaay!! (Or so I thought) Not long had passed before a new string of problems had set in. Nowadays the device was freezing unexpectedly a lot. It sometimes even froze while it was resetting, which meant I had to either wait 8 hours for the battery to die or open up the Zune and unplug the battery. But strangely, i stuck with the Zune. With the upgrade to the new firmware, 2.0, the freeze got much less intensive and often. Today, I still use the same Zune, but it comes with a list of rules: These rules (so far) have only applied when playing or browsing through music, no other instance. 1.If back light is set to turn off, you cannot listen to music above volume 17, you must set the back light to always on. 2.If plugged in too any electronic device, the back light must be always on 3.the probability of freezing is different for every device -Headphones - 5% if rule 1 is followed -My PA system - 12% - the system has the least overall amount of electrical resistance (Excluding Headphones) for audio output -FM Transmitter - 20% -Portable Speaker (separate pair) - 23% -Plugged into TV (Via RCA cord) - 30% -Portable speakers (attached pair) - 36% -Powered Headphone Splitter - 68% -Auxiliary Audio Input in Cars - 95% 4.While resetting, unplug all cords from the Zune. Failure to comply with these rules has always resulted in freezing. It's no fun sometimes, but through it all I stand by the Zune and it's dominance in the media playing world. Enjoy listen to your Zune, and remember, these rules don't apply to you ![]()
