Picked up a Zune80

My reasons for getting another mp3 player were; 1. My iPod battery is shot to hell and won't hold a charge and 2. I've been having trouble getting over a failed relationship, and wanted something to cheer me up. Also, I'm going on vacation with my family in a week, and needed it to help get me through those shenanigans.

Before this, I had an iPod mini that I bought when they were fresh out of Apple's ass, and thought it was the greatest thing in the world. Anymore, I'm waiting for the right time to drop a hammer onto it's glitchy white click wheel. The battery in it lasted about 30 minutes (yes, that's the actual time), and made my gym visits almost unbearable.

So, the day after my birthday, I ordered a Zune 80 on bestbuy.com to make sure I would be able to get one. The next day, I drove down to pick it up, and was happy to know that I would be able to test it out in the car right away with the preloaded BNL and Andrew Bird. After getting home, and waiting about two hours to transfer the 50gb of music I had handpicked, tweaked meta tags, and found album art for the week before, I could finally test it out.

I must say, two days later, this is better than any iPod Classic, iPod Touch, or any third party MP3 player that I have ever used. The screen is big, the squircle feels very natural, and in combination with the up and down buttons makes it MUCH easier then the iPod to pick the exact item I want (and with over 200 artists, this is a must).

I didn't know what name to give it for a while, and "Alex's Zune" just didn't seem to suit my tastes. I've settled on Deus Ex Machina, with the idea coming from The Matrix Revolutions, and it's direct translation from Latin being "god out of a machine".

Only a few things that slightly bother me: no clock, there's plenty of room on that screen to put a clock somewhere; the Zune Social is a bit buggy (at the moment I can't even log in); I would like to make "folders" for tv shows, instead of just having the episodes jumbled all over the place; the option for a custom wallpaper is nice, but if I can't change the font color or font face, it really limits me.

All in all, I love my new Zune, and don't plan on buying anything else for a long time (knock on wood)!

I'm running a 64-bit Vista, from what I've gathered there's no support for that yet. Also, does the clock show up on every page on the Zune?

Sheesh, if you resorted to theft to get away from your iPod and get a Zune then I guess they must be getting quite popular.
