Default I need some advice

Hey Guys,

My name is Brok. I am pretty new to the boards, but I am not at the same time. I signed up for the boards almost a year ago, and was a lurker for about a week. All of sudden I basically forgot about the site, until about a week ago..lol. But Just wanted to introduce myself, and I also have a question.

Okay, My story is kind of silly. I bought a Zune30 back in May of last year, and I loved the Device, but the zune software bugged me to death. I sold it, and bought a 80gb ipod classic from amazon, and I have had it for about 10 days now. I am starting to have some buyers remorse. I really want the Zune 80, but i am still not too keen on the software. The ipod I have, as a device, is not that great compared to my Zune, but I love the itunes software! I just don't know if I should send my ipod back to amazon and get a zune 80 (which I really want) or just keep my ipod. What do you guys think? I know most of you guys probably think I am stupid for asking this question on a Zune board, but I don't know anwhere else to go..lol, so any advice would be great. Thanks!

Not at all. There are quite a few Zune-obsessed people here, though. I love the iPod Classic, but I'm so glad I went with Microsoft this generation. The iPod Classic is only amazing in terms of battery life and capacity. And those are only if you're going for the highest model. Otherwise, they're extremely similar to the previous generation, which I already own. The 80GB iPod Classic is nice as well, though. You can set the Zune Software to watch your iTunes Music Folder, so as long as everything is organized in iTunes, so shall it be within the Zune software. By switching over you will still be able to use iTunes on your computer to listen to music and tag your music and video collection. The only thing you'll have to do in the Zune software is put your videos into the proper categories and tell the software what you want to sync over. Anything else, such as changing album art, artists' name, etc., can be done in iTunes with the respective field updating in the Zune software. You will not be able to increase or decrease audio/video volume in iTunes and have it update in the Zune software as well. Your playlists will not transfer over either. I'm much more satisfied with the Zune as a device, though the software could still use a bit of work. After the last update, it's definitely worth it, though. The device is organized, there's a beautiful glass screen, and it just feels better all around. There are quite a few features missing from the Zune that iTunes and the iPod have, but I've looked past them and I'm satisfied.

I'd send the ipod back while you can. Have you tried the new 2.5 software? Have you heard about Zune Games, and the clock?

Zune is much better now, I would highly recommend it.

I wasn't crazy about the Zune's software myself. I finally downloaded and installed 2.5 and I like it a lot better. I'm not in love with it still, but I like a lot better than the previous version.

Thanks guys. I still got 20 days to send my ipod back, and I plan to do it soon. I have upgraded my zune software to 2.5, and it looks much better, but I obviously can't play around with it because I sold my zune..lol. But like you said stkr, the ipod is not a bad device, don't get me wrong. It just doesn't live up to my expectations after having a zune. This is actually my third ipod (First video ipod, the other two were ipod mini, and second gen nano). And I am just a little mad at myself that I even bought it. Their is nothing really new or amazing that the classic has brought this time around. Watching videos on a zune screen compared to a ipod screen is a big difference to me. And the clickwheel on my classic don't respond to first touch about 85% of the time, and I have to rotate my thumb around the clickwheel about 3 times before it picks up motion, and it's just pretty frustrating. I think I basically just gave up a little too early on my zune, I only had it for a year, and actually gave up on (because of the software) for about 6 months, and then I sold it. So, I think I might just go ahead and give this ipod back to amazon.

Well I've owned two iPods (the first gen Nano and the Video iPod). I wasn't a fan of the Zune 30 at all, but the Zune 80 is much better in my opinion. The new Zune feels like it's better made to me, plus it looks much better and has a glass screen. I have heard issues with the scroll wheel of the iPod Classic, but I've never experienced myself and I've used them frequently. If you get a new Zune definitely get the Zune 80.

If you send your ipod back, I would also recommend an 80GB Zune. I love mine. I had a thirty, but sold it a week after the new ones came out.
