Default Zune 80 W/ Ivisible Shield - No More...

For all who didn't already know...I have a Full Body Invisible Shield on my Black Zune 80 from Zune Originals. Which I loved the IS made my zune scratch proof at the cost of loosing the sleek feel of my zune, and a semi-ugly applied IS on my zune. But still made my whole zune experience a whole better.

But sadly today my IS is no more. Heres the story...

Like most Saturdays I get the responsibility to baby sit my 10 year old cousin. And like any other Saturday I normally hand him my zune and let him watch some anime/cartoon movies and videos that I have on it. Normally nothing happens to my zune, he just sits their for hours watching vids, listening to music and just plays around with my zune. But this Saturday my little cousin pulls the IS right off my zune 80!

I walked in on him taking the IS right off my zune 80 just as he was about to pull the back piece off. But yeah I got mad of course!!! Screamed at him and he just says sorry and walks away to play with his ds lite that he brought with him.

So I sat their on the floor staring at my half naked black zune 80 originals...and I'm like dang..it looks so much better. The feel of the zune 80 is so nice, the screen looks cleaner and crisper. After about 30min of just sitting their admiring how much better my zune felt and looked. I ripped the back piece Invisible Shield off my zune 80. Oh yah just a note the IS kind of ripped the soft texture feel of the engravings on the back of my zune. So in other words it kind ruined the feel of it, you still perfectly see it just feels kind weird now not like it did when I first touched it when I opened it up in it's zune originals box. Also you can see an imprint of my zune originals engraving on the Invisible Shield also you can see my serial number and those litttle numbers and symbols at the bottom of your zune on my shield..weird..

But yeah so in the end my little cousin rips my IS investment right off my zune 80. And I love my zune 10 times as much now. I mean yeah it may not be scratch proof anymore but I take good care of it anyways. My zune feels smaller, sleeker, the screen looks better. Plus that poorly misaligned full body IS that I slapped on it just ruined the look of my zune. Also the rubbery texture of the IS wasn't something I really liked. Over all I don't care that my IS is gone now. Zune looks better now..

In a month or two I'm going to be asking for a replacement IS.Why wait so long you may ask?? Because I don't want an IS on my zune right now. But yeah people won't be handling my zune now either, I won't put my zune in my pocket either now too. Because of the whole lint getting on the zune thing.
But yeah lost my scratch proof investment...but love my zune 80 originals 10X more.

Few things I noticed about my zune after IS came off:
1) That little plastic shiny thing on the top of my zune that's for the wireless is kind of loose....I can push it down and it goes back up after I let go. Hard to explain. Won't be sending it in to MS though..

2) Their was a little scratch on my zune screen before I put the IS on it. And now it's gone my zune screen is scratch free. Weird right??...

3) The IS messed up the feel of the engravings on the back of my zune. It's a kind of bumpy, tacky(sticky) weird feel. Unlike before when it was like this soft feel. And my engravings looks weird at a certain angle in the light. You still see it perfectly it's not like the engraving is gone. Everything is their just the feel of it is weird...

But yeah Bye Bye Scratch Proof Zune....

I still suggest an IS for all zune owners! Just a note to zune originals owners thinking about getting an IS to slap on their engraving. The IS will ruin/change the feel of your engravings over time. I had my IS on my zune originals for about 2 months. Not sure but I got a theory that if I left it on longer it might of messed up the engravings I'm not sure though...could be wrong.

Happy Zune-ing!

Edit: Oh yah theirs one thing that's bothering me too..with out my IS dust/lint gets stuck between the little space between the zune screen and just device casing. And theirs already one piece of lint that I can't get out. I tried everything...oh well. Still love my zune now..can't keep it perfect for ever.

Another Edit: If you have any questions about if the IS left residue or how hard it was to take it off just drop me a pm. Also by the way no residue on only the back piece which was because I didn't get all the water out apparently...also it was kind of tough to take it off.

Good advice, I won't be getting one when I get my Zune 8.

Yup don't slap an IS on your zune originals engraving when you get one. It rips the texture right off it! Makes it feel tacky and semi weird... Just way different then it felt before I put an IS on it. I'm comparing my friends cousins zune originals right now with mine. His zunes engravings texture feels way diff than mine and we got the same engraving.

Plus you can tell a diff too when you at your engraving at a certain angle in the light. Like I can see dark/light color differences and fuzz things and weird stuff...hard to explain. Just trust me

Zune Originals Engraving + IS = NO!!!

But IS + Zune Screen = Yes!

Yeah the screen one is good to get. I don't like the screen one on the z80's screen though. Because the little space between the screen and the device's casing would cause this weird water like moisture mark on the IS. I you didn't get all the excess water out while applying the IS. In other words it made my zunes screen look crappy. Plus I had a few pieces of lint under the IS...but yeah love my zune even more now. I though seeing smudges and fingerprints on the screen would piss me off but doesn't bother me really. But yeah... love my zune 10X as much now even if it isn't scratch proof anymore.

Plan on getting an IS replacement eventually...

Is the little space between the screen and the device's casing present in both the Zune 4/8 and Zune 80? If its in Zune 4/8 Is it betwen the screen and black border or between the border and the rest of the device.

And that's why you don't let little kids use expensive electronics without supervision. Luckily for you, everything turned out okay.

Does the IS leave any sort of residue on the Zune after you take it off?

Nope! It did for me on the back though...but that was because I didn't get all the water out when I was applying the back. But the residue was easy to rub off. Just took my shirt and wiped it off. But yeah no residue. But if your going to get an IS make sure to get all the water out when applying it.

Cool deal. I have a full shield on mine and I was wondering if the liquid and the adhesive would leave the Zune all sticky if I ever decided to take it off.

the only reason after u take off ur IS and have marks on it is because the adhesive took it off. I'm probably gonna get a IS screen protector after i exchange my scratched one already.

Aren't IS the best protectors?
They're made from something to do with heliopters,
Anyway glad you liked it better when it came off

I've used IS on my Sansa and Zune 30. The Sansa can't do without it, and it doesn't detract from its appearance. The Zune, on the other hand, doesn't look as good with it on, and is already scratch-resistant on its own, in my opinion. Also, at least on the 30, even the "full" shield left WAY too many areas of the Zune exposed.

For the money, a "Best Skin Ever" shield is just as good if you want to try something like the IS and save a lot. They don't offer the lifetime warranty, but if you don't word your warranty claim VERY carefully to ShieldZone (IS), they won't want to honor their warranty anyway. Ask me how I know

Another problem with the IS is that sometimes, during the manufacturing process, the shields can get these micro-scratches. Not a big deal...unless they happen to be in the screen area and you end up seeing a bunch of refracted-light rainbows. Try explaining that to customer service, and they'll blame it on an "installation error." I'm like: You mean to tell me you claim your shield is scratch-proof, but you're telling me the little plastic squeegee you provided to install it scratched it?!

Anyway, save some money, and try the BestSkinEver.
