Default [SOLVED] RIP 12-19-06 to 3-19-08

So yeah my Zune broke and there is no way of fixing it. It's weird how in exactly 16 months it breaks. Sigh, well if you all want to hear the story...
It all started this morning..
I woke up late because my phone, which I use as an alarm, shut down during the night randomly. I ran to my bus but I missed it. I live in Queens, NY and my school is in the Bronx so if any New Yorkers out there you all know how far I am from my house.
I hardly take the train to school but I was forced to today. So I took the public bus to the train station which took 1 hour. I then took the train to school but on the way I accidentally took the wrong train (I took the one going downtown rather than uptown) so I spent about 2 hours wasting my life.. Once I actually got to school I walked and then my Zune falls out of my hoodie pocket and into the tracks. I knew that there were gonna be no trains so I went down the tracks and picked it up, it was disgusting and all. (Once again being in NY there is no such thing as sanitary) The Zune was submerged in a puddle so I had no idea why I still tried to get it. I guess there was still some hope in my mind that it would work.
When I got my Zune back it was dead, I clicked every button all the combinations and everything. Just dead. Dead. When I got home, I plugged it in but still nothing, just the blank black screen of my disappointed face staring back at me.
So for now and probably for at least 3-4 months I'll be using my crap iPod Video, ugh. My parents aren't allowing me to buy a Zune 80 because I already have an iPod. Something about not wasting money on something you already have. But yeah, I was too lazy to argue and explain the difference between the Zune and iPod.
Sigh..
Jon is sad.

RIP 12-19-06 to 3-19-08

It's sad to hear that your Zune did not die a natural death (HD failure ). My Zune is now over 17 months old, and I'm just patiently waiting for it to die. (2 year extra warranty, ftw!)

Yeah I'm gonna give that a try but I'm a bit hesitant about that. If my iPod goes dead then I'm dead.

@LPX Yeah I should have gotten the 2-Year warranty :/

Well if it fell in water you should just let it sit near a window or a flow of warm air. When it dries it should work. Electronics are becoming more resistant to water nowadays. You can wash your iPod and after it dries it should be fine. I'm not saying it's guaranteed to work, but the odds are that after it dries it will be fine. Since there is water inside the device, it will take much longer to completely evaporate than it would normally. That's why you put it near something warm or a flow of air. To be completely honest, you shouldn't have plugged it in or even tried to turn it on. From what I've read on this, doing that can short out the battery if it's surrounded by water, but I don't know if that is true or not. Anyway, just let it dry and hopefully it'll come back on in a matter of days. I suggest sitting it in the general area of a space heater or something warm. Sounds like living in NY can be hell . I live in GA so we're in two different worlds.

I feel your pain... I'm stuck using my crap 30 gig video ipod as well... My parents tell me zune is just a fad, and I shouldn't waste money on something I already have...(pretty much same story as you). It's so annoying, being such a big zune fan and using an ipod.

I'm so sorry for you. Seriously man. I feel your pain. If my Zune died. I'd go insane. Literally. It's my primary source of music all of the time.

Somebody in the shoutbox recommended you open up both players and put the iPod Hard Drive in the Zune.

Exactly. The only point I see in opening it up would be to let it air dry quicker. I don't open devices, though.

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE
I woke up today and my Zune worked!!
I guess there was just water in it and it dried.
HOLY CRAP IT'S AMAZING
Falling in the train tracks and submerged under dirty subway water and IT STILL LIVES!
LONG LIVE THE ZUNE!
It was a miracle.

Congrats. It's truely a miricle. It was me who suggested opening up and replace the HD. HD is the only part in the zune that's not water proof. THe ipod HD and zune HD has the same connector.

Well..if you only cracked the glass/plastic cover, you can go to a hardware shop and buy a replacement glass/plastic for $1. If you cracked the actual LCD, you can buy a replacement for $5.

Either way, you'll have to open up your zune. Good thing is that the process of opening the zune is very simple and idiotproof.
