My zune has been through more bumps, slams, and shakes than I care to mention, but two of them I think are worth sharing.
(What you are about to read really happened, and I DO NOT recommend you try to repeat the results, the Zune is built well, but you never know!) I work security at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, and do alot of traveling around the 14 square mile complex. And taking my zune along while patrolling on one of the motorcycles is great. But one day while on rounds, I was listening to my music and the zune slipped out of my pocket, not having a case on it, the music suddenly stopped and I heard the distinct crunch, and skid of plastic across the black-top. To my amazement when I got back to where the zune had reached the end of its 85ft journey at 75 mph, there were only a few scratches on the face, and it still turned on. But would it still play the music, or was the hdd royally skrewed? I plugged in the headphones, and fired it up, Miraculously, it still played! And to this day, works just as good as when I first bought it. A few months later, on the same stretch of pavement, one of my co-workers, who I have been trying to talk into buying a zune and get away from his white-brick-o-death (iPood). He was getting out of the Escape we use, and had the iPoC setting in his lap, it ended up on the ground from a fall of about 3 ft. Now he has a $350 paperweight, and a new zune. I have a working testament to the durability of the zune, and am glad M$ did something right.

I have dropped my zune 30 twice but I bought a belkin plastic case for $15 shortly after I bought my zune it adds to its size but to protect my investment the extra bulk is worth it

zunes are like tanks: I've dropped mine quite a few times on concrete, and it still works fine.

The Zune is like, a tank, as someone once said on the forums MONTHS ago(middle of last year or so).
Put it in water, hit it, nothing.. it was amazing..

I've dropped it once and got a scratch on the screen. Sister dropped her iPod and then she had to reset it twice before it turned on. She lost all of her music and had to sync back up to my library. I laughed and then she hit me.

WOW! insane story, I knew Zunes were a BEASTLYTANK but would never thought it'd make it through that. So happy I got a zune 80 then a ipod. Now the 2nd gen Zunes might not be a BEASTLYTANK like the Zune 30's. But there still Beastly!!! Zune On!
