Apple finally getting a taste of the Zune Experience?
For a long time now we have been speculating whether Microsoft will release the Software, and with it the potential of the Zune to Apple Mac's. Time and time again they have never really let Apple have a taste, and rightly so. But it leaves you to think, if you want to beat the competitor, don't you have to join them first?
I feel releasing an Apple Zune Software would potentially grab Ipod users a lot easier, as they can try the service out for themselves, without having to play around with stupid VirtualBox programs which let you run a Windows OS within the MAC OS. It could spread the Zune into Apple land and grasp some of their users. Now that would be a good idea.
You also have to think about the Potential of the Zune Pass. This is now becoming DRM free, which allows the music to be put onto any device, including the Ipod's. This could create a huge problem with the people at Itunes, where I feel $15 a month is a lot better than $1 a song, and we could start seeing Ipod owners using A Zune Pass. Not the full monty, but Microsoft is on the right track.
I also see a good point to this, and to the past. Why release something that isnt good, and give it to everyone? I mean, it would leave a bad taste for the rest of that devices life, correct? I feel Microsoft are finally proud of the Zune, and can now release it to the wild, seeing as a International release might come early next year, also.
I don't know about you, but I feel this is a good way to slowly win over more users, and eventually RULE THE WORLD *ahem* ,back the Zune franchise.
Again, this is not set in stone, but Microsoft are thinking about it. But first they have to sort the Zune on the Xbox, Zune on Windows Mobile, and THEN, they can decide whether or not fanboys deserve such a great experience.
Uh, that title was extremely misleading. That make's it sound like the Zune software will be available on Mac OS X. That's what it almost saying. Please.
Change the title so it reflects the actual post, like why it should be Mac compatible.

the whole point of the article is to say that OS X might be getting the zune software.

Ya, like apple 'might' get a taste of the zune experience. Anyway, that sounds like a good idea on the surface, but I'm sure microsoft has their reasons for being a single platform device from the start, or they may have reasons to change that. Either way its way out of my knowledge.
(my first post, yeah!)

Linux support would be greatly helpful as well, as we are also forced to use the same method as Mac users. Though with Microsoft so completely at odds with the open source community, as opposed to just simply competing as it is with Apple, I fear the chances are slim to none...

I've been with Zune every step of the way. I remember the original software. Do you?
I think the reason why they did not release it for the mac is because they wanted people to use Zune with the pc instead of a mac. because the they would be killing two birds with on stone and by using a pc they would need windows to run a zune so they would get a lot of money . but unfortunately those 2 birds cost a lot to kill thats a few hundred dollars to do a switch. I think it would be a good idea to just start with getting mac people in the mp3 world. then we can go ahead and start the whole world domination thing. just as long as all the people who help get their own personal spartan suit ,AI and spartan laser
how much do you think apple would charge for royalties? and do you really think they would just gladly welcome the zune software to the mac platform?..dont think so
Ya don,t think they will go with it , but the totally fine with putting ipod on Windows i can,t believe ms aloud that to happen. ipod would not be anywhere near as popular as it is if it was not on the pc

That's usually the last point discussed in MY Zune vs. iPod arguments.

Unlike on the iPhone, neither Apple nor Microsoft have any kind of control over what programs are made and released for their operating systems. So yea, it doesn't matter if they gladly welcome it or not, they can't do anything to stop it.

i know alot of poeple (in my university) who own zunes but run them on macs only. it doesn't cost anything to run or install 3rd party software to run Zune marketplace on mac. well with the way things are accessible now days. Reason for getting zunes, was to get anything other than an ipod. Though i hope microsost will do a 200 or 400 gb zune player. As an apple fan i love my zune alot!!!!!.

LOL keep dreaming. the percentage of people that even have that much music most likely wouldn't be cost efficient for MS to release a zune with that much storage capacity.
Do you know how UNREALISTIC that is? Although, Toshiba is coming out with a 240 gb internal harddrive that could be in future Zunes.
I don't really think more memory is in order, i have a 120 zune *outdated =( * and i have 200+ games, 120 songs, 3 movies, and 30 tv episodes on it (30 minutes each) i have only used 15 GB of memory space lol.

Actually.. in the future large hard drives would be cost effective. The 30 gig HDD cost microsoft the same as the 120. I wouldn't be surprised if in two years, we see 500 gig HDD at the same cost as the 120. That's just how technology works, it gets better but stays the same price. Just look at computers 10 years ago. You still paid around 1000 for a PC, but compare a 1000 dollar PC from today to one from the nineties.
