There is an article on gizmodo about it. Someone posted this info. I have n't tried it yet as i'm not at home. There will prob be a fix from microsoft but how long will that take?

There's a fix:

"Your zune will need a "hard reset."

To do this, use a small screwdriver to pop off the plastic shielding where the zune cable plugs into and remove the two screws on either side of the plug. Next pop the cover off and locate the battery plug at the top left corner of the zune, using your screw driver, pop the cable connection half way off, and do this to the other plug on the right side. Wait 3 seconds, then push down the right connector and then the left battery connecter. Your zune should start up immediately. Press the backing of the zune down (make sure headphone jack is aligned) and put the screws and cover back in place.

It's an easy process but if you're unsure don't attempt it if you think you'll screw it or something. "

Iv'e also got the 30gig zune, and i'm stuck at the zune startup screen. cant reboot or anything. MICROSOFT does it again. I now have a RROD XBOX360, and a broken ZUNE. WTF

Not pretty, but it might help those of you who have this problem.

That will unfreeze it for now, once it attached to the PC, it will freeze up again.

Mine is doing the exact same thing; this is the second 30GB zune which has died. Last time I do business with Microsoft!

i think i've got a fix
when you do the hard reset thing try deleting your zune software first and install the 1.0 software

Yep, turned mine on this morning at work like I always do, and after a few minutes, realized the Zune logo and the status bar had not moved

Well, I'm pretty sure that seeing all the zunes went down at the same time, the issue is that Microsoft had something set up in the 3.0 update to restart the Zune and to apply the 2009 clock and such on December 31st 12:00 PST

I'm one of the German Zune owners. Just typing "zune stuck on boot" into google and found this thread as one of the first links. Wow, around the world every 30G-Zune broke. WTF?!?

YES it has happened... my 200 dollar limited RED ZUNE 30 has froze. I work
3rd shift and at about 3 am I started my zune as i left and it locked right up on the load screen. Whats really confusing is I was using it at my 12 midnight break just fine. Seriously, if this is MS way of making sure everyone updates to newer models why make V3.0 software compatable with V1.0 models!!!

Is this a coincidence? Doubt it, sounds more like sloppy programming and the disparity between expected year on computer vs player. Of course there's no way I can check as I'm in the same boat. So how does zune handle dates?
