I installed Itunes for the first time on this computer just recently (for the marketplace), (podcasts specifically), and after having disliked it for almost my whole life I actually enjoyed using it for a while. It has some advantages, though I did notice the black library layout was starkly similiar to WMP 11. However after about a week I got curious about the new Genius feature and figure it had to be worth a try, so I loaded all my music into the Itunes library and made sure to tell it NOT re-oraganize or re-name anything, period. Low and behold what did it proceed to do? Yup, shuffled all my songs around, and now Zune doesn't even recognize most of them because they've been moved or the filename's been changed. Not only that but it seemed to discard most of my album art. All this after just last month I spent many, many hours sorting, cleaning and organizing my music library just so for use with Zune.
I am back to hating Itunes and most Apple products.
I am surprised at how sad iTunes is for Apple having such a larger userbase. My friend's iPod does this:
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers

And it does it with more than just RHCP
That would be the ID3 tags of the song files. Your friend needs to clean up the tags.
I-tunes drove me nuts when I had my ipod classic 80. I really hated when updates came that I got asked quite a bit about safari and quicktime which I never wanted to use. That was the main reason I wanted to switch to a zune.

The tags needed more help in itunes than zune software.

I've never been a big fan of Fiction: p. Really though its not too different then the Zune software. Both have frustrating aspects but when you consider everything about both programs its all still a matter of preference. Or even Necessitiy depending on what device you use.
I was thinking about this the other day and I can almost see iTunes being a Microsoft product. Its got a general look and organizational structure we are accustom to in Windows and I personally find it to be more advanted in many ways, which is something Windows users are acustom to. With the Zune software MS has tried and succeeded in making sure the Zune Software looks nothing like iTunes. And in doing that it lost the "Windows" feel which I like having... So I guess my reason for liking iTunes so much is -- because it Feels like Windows.
I read through most of this thread, and I saw something I had to point out. I think stkr said something like that if my PC is running slowly when iTunes is open, I should buy new parts or a new pc altogether. That doesn't make sense to me. If all I want to do is play music through my PC or sync an mp3 player with music, why should I have to buy expensive computer parts or a whole new pc all together if I only want to sync my music player?
Also: Zune Software never runs anywhere near 86k for me. I'm playing music on it right now and it's at exactly 52k.

What I said is that if your computer cannot run iTunes properly, then it's probably having issues in many other areas. If your computer is decent and up-to-date then the resources that iTunes requires shouldn't be killing your computer.

Tell that to someone who runs a windows OS which isn't compatible with the Zune software in the first place..
