Default 3.0 bug possibly?

Has anyone else had computer problems ever since the 3.0 release? 'Cause once i got it, my computer has been randomly re-starting...I don't know what's causing it because around the same time, my sister got limewire and has been getting music on this computer, so we might've gotten a virus, but i've ran my spyware/virus software and it hasn't come up with anything..

What should i do? Is there anything i can do?

Limewire, for sure. As for cleaning it up, I'd reccommend Malwarebyte's Antimalware. It's completely free and good at removing even the most entrenched infections. Also, it has a cool name.

It is interesting. I have never had any problems with LimeWire.

that's what's strange. I haven't either. So i'm kinda iffy with that being the cause, although my sister is stupid, and when she was downloading them, she wasn't paying attention. she was downloading files that were like 500 KB, whilst most of the others are 1500-2000, and those files wouldn't play anything, just 1 second of silence...

EDIT: i just remembered that my zune kept restarting too, completely randomly. Dunno if that helps, but usually more info=better results.

Well I am not stupid... I know not to download files that are less than 1000 KB. Anything that small will not be music. Files that are around 500 KB are most likely viruses.

Yeah it would be a good idea to get rid of limewire and antivirus it.

this is a link to one of the 2 messages i've gotten once the computer came back.

Microsoft Windows Error Reporting

and i already uninstalled limewire and ran spybot-search and destroy. Is that enough? It said that i had to reboot it for the disk repair, so i'm doing that tonight since it said that it might take a while. The other one was about USB drivers and stuff like that and i did all the stuff and i haven't seen that one since.

Make sure to run the software I linked you to. It's pretty much unstopable, and can clear out live and active infections even if they have control over your computer. It's much more powerful than Spybot or even most common products.

is it really going to remove everything? 'Cause i've gotten "free" malware systems before and all they did was scan and tell me what was wrong but didn't fix it.

Yes, this is legitimate. The folks as Bleeping Computer reccommend it for nearly every infection problem, and it rarely fails to completely clean the system. I myself used it to clean out a particularly nasty Vundo infection. Besides, I'm on the support team, do you think I'd be distributing malware?

limewire is clean, its just the stuff you download from it may be harmful
and for antispyware programs there are many out there that will do the job

Limewire itself is clean, but even downloading clean files opens you up to viruses. Once you've secured a direct connection to other computers, you will have security vulnerabilities. P2P is inherently a dangerous activity. I've already dealt with one major infection because of it, and nearly lost my computer to it. It's really up to Gatapi if he wants to keep it, but he does need to run regular scans with this Malwarebyte's Antimalware. Also, Avast, another freeware scanner, has P2P shields which will reduce the chance of getting infected.

You should always have some sort of anti virus system if your pc has internet connection, the chances of getting viruses is larger on programs like limewire, but p2p programs usually safe, ive been using bittorrent, p2p, and limewire for 6+ years and havent gotten any viruses from them

So you think. I had my antivirus tell me that "Vundo has been blocked/removed/etc." once, and then six months later the same infection nearly killed the thing. Latent infections are very hard to get at, because they look like they're gone but then pop up without warning. This is because most anti-virus suites aren't built to handle P2P. If you must use such programs, MBAM and Avast should be used to minimize risks. Even on nice communal sites like Demonoid you can still get some nasty infections, even with proper anti-virus measures. It's inevitable, and it's all about how much risk one is willing to assume.

BTW, would you mind running MBAM and telling me what comes up? I'm curious now as to how virus free your system is.

hmm cool never heard of mbam, im downloading right now, but right now Im using my new rig its only a couple months old

and if u download torrents with many seeds and leechers, read the comments and ratings, its very hard to go wrong, plus some torrent sites monitor whats being uploaded so a large majority of torrents should be clean

Again, even if all of them were clean, you can still get an infection because of the nature of P2P software. So yeah, use MBAM, and Avast if you've got a good computer(running the P2P shield can be a bit intensive, especially when combined with the other real time features).
