Default Zune 3.0 a Week Later

Mmm-Kay, so now that you've had a full week with the new software and firmware, what are your thoughts?

Have you found anything that's seriously bugging you? Are you gonna try the free 14-day trial of the Zune Pass to see what all the buzz is about with the new features? Any bugs to report? Any praise to shower on the Zune Team? Let us hear it here. You never know when the Zune Team is stopping on through to see what's being said (believe me when I say they do)...

I like pretty much everything about the software, however, the fact that games that didn't come with the new update are still restarting is a serious irritation. It keeps me from playing them as much as I would like.

Oh, and I'm dying for a blue Zune 120 to come out so that I can buy it, blue is the favorite color of A LOT of people and I can't tell you how often I've passed on buying a product until they came out with a blue color.

bit of a pain that zsuite has gone for a burton with the new software, But i did notice that if the device is updated and software not (i have zune on 2 pcs) then zsuite will still work, or at least the HDD hack part does.

i still get probs with reverse sync, doesnt always copy properly and leaves me with a .tmp file of a few kb.

was hoping that would be fixed

I've actually had my Zune freeze on me twice with the new firmware -- forcing a reboot.

Never had that happen with the old firmware at all.

All you've got to do is just wipe the firmware and reload it and it'll be bug-free. It's not the firmware, it's just problems inherent to upgrading.

Default problems..

I love the new features, but im wondering if its enough to say i like it. Mine has been a bit sluggish. like when i was scrolling through the menu it froze for a few seconds. also when i was scrolling through my songs it did the same thing. I completely reorganized my music collection recently, so i formatted my zune and put all my updated and renamed tunes and other stuff back on and its still sluggish. I dont like the new now playing at all. I miss zalternator. I absolutely despise the zune software but at least 3.0 is able to find and add all my music to collection. previous versions only added half or so. I would love rockbox or a hacked firmware for the zune but i believe that wont happen for a very long time if ever. I would settle for the ability to use media monkey, itunes, WMP or any others without zalternator, and to be able to use the zune as a storage device. Its not the firmware on the zune i hate its the software on the pc side. Sorry to get off topic i just dont understand why microsoft thinks they have to make everything proprietary. The zune is a very powerful and well designed device and if it were more "open" it would sell better. The only reason i havent traded my 80 off for a ipod is because im awaiting the day when the software and firmware becomes decent.

In Conclusion :

Microsoft did a great job with the zune, and this is a nice update, even with its minor problems. But to all you skilled programmers and hackers, please work on some alternatives.

Thanks,
John

i like it i just wish it was/had:
-More customization (eg. themes)
-movies on the marketplace
-videos added to the zune pass with a price increase (idk say to $30 a month)

Default Problems.

Seems that the time counter since the upgrade has stopped working or works intermittently. Anyone else have the same issue?

I too had problems with the time bar...But it seems to have disappeared.

Now playing?!? Why?! Not a bad feature to have, but I miss quicklist.

I don't understand why the quicklist was removed, for me personally, that was one of the greatest features. I was looking for improvements on the quicklist, not it's removal. Like being able to permanently save your quicklist while syncing or something to that effect.

The idea of games are cool, but they should expand/fix them. I see that everyone on this website has had games for a long time hahaha, but for me this is new (that's actually how I found this site, google'ing for more games). the texas hold 'em programming is awful, really crappy computer players, no in game options to speed up game or up computer difficulty. I realize this is all new, but there are tons of texas hold 'em games, you'd think it'd be a little better.

The access Marketplace by wifi feature is cool, but I have yet to be able to use it anywhere except at home. Even on "open" networks at school.

When I saw radio flagging I thought they were finally bringing flagging back (one of my favorite old features), but apparently not...

All in all, theres not too much change to make it difficult, a lot of good things happening, but I'm hoping for a patch...soon.

I'm still having the same problems:

-new 'Now Playing' does not work
-Mix View only works with a select few artists
-My Zune freezes all the time now. It froze twice within one hour today.
-Quick List needs to come back and then be improved.

I don't like the "now playing" thing, at first i thought i worked just like the quick list. i put the songs that i usually listen to when i go to sleep on it, and when i wake up the next morning i find it still playing music, with the battery almost dead, and a bunch of songs that weren't there before.
I like the clock, screen lock, and how it picks up WiFi networks now.
I haven't tried logging onto my home wifi network yet, i should do that when i get home.

I like the new stuff, I like it alot. I haven't used the now playing but it sounds like it works like the now playing feature does in the software. I like the channels and the picks. My Zune 80 my wifes 30, and my 4g work fine. I wish the now playing picture screen had more artitists, and I would like to change the default view (the album art Collage) to something else like a visualizer or something.

I really have one problem. Channels does not work for me. I tried all the fix's posted even reinstalled the software. All i get is an "no items" in my channels and all the channel music is mixed in with my music collection. And i find it heard to believe i'm the only one with this problem. I've tried everything and now its just annoying to me.

Grrr, mine freezes about 1 out of every 5 songs. The only place I've had the freezes though are when I select a song from a list, nothing else seems to cause the freeze. I assume this is the issue you were talking about up there, so I'm gonna go wipe the firmware and HOPE it works . . .
