The new "Picks" option.

So ive seen this idea in other programs and it normally fails miserably. They monitor your music, plays and how many times you play songs and try and come up with music you have not listened to and present it to you as "Oh, try this band! you'll like them!" And, as I said, it normally falls Far far to short of music I would normally listen to.

however, I was pleasantly suprised when "Picks" on the Zune marketplace showed me a band called Daughtry, Now im not saying that this is the band for everyone. All I am commenting on is that yea, I have never heard this band before and I liked it. Im giving a thumbs up for this feature, Kudos to Microsoft for this one.

Any ony else have a thought on this?

Glad you found Daughtry, I like his music too. As for the Picks, it's been a pretty much failure for me. I have/listened to pretty much everything they have suggested for me haha.

how many songs do u have to listen to before they start giving these to you
i have 573 plays and it says listen more

Im at about 3100 listens, however I have about 3700 songs. Im assuming around that many? No idea. And im sorry it hasnt worked for you, I was really happy this worked for once. IM sure it will go down hill from here.

But I gave it a chance.

the picks option is weird for me. Some songs it suggests I end up liking, but it suggested Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" and I have nothing like that in my collection so it was strange.

They might think they are. But they're not really. They best fit as Alternative Rock, but a case can be made for Alternative Metal. But have you ever seen them try to play Sad But True? I weeped at the raping of that song.

Nickleback is not metal. Metal != what MTV says it is.

So I got ANOTHER new pick from them, Plain White T's new album. And again, im impressed. And im not saying that this band is for everyone, what im saying is that im impressed that this feature has worked so well. Anyone else getting this sort of feed back from this new "Picks" thing?

Yeah, I agree. I actually got some good recommendations from the "Picks" option. I really like this new feature. I just wish it would recommend something new now. It still has the same artists as last time.

I would love to see the programming behind Picks. I bet it took some poor guy, or gal, a lo-o-ong while to sit and write the coding. I hope whoever wrote it got paid very well for it.

Of course, they may have just "borrowed" it from Tivo too.

whats the "picks" feature? The mixview sounds similar to this

Picks is basically where the Zune software analyzes what you've listened to and reccomends based on all of it. Sorta like Mixview with hundreds of songs being looked at instead of just the one you're listening to at the moment.

Just go to Marketplace, if you've done the steps to get it in Canada. It's right next to Music.
