Default Why an Alarm Clock? [seriously?]

Now that we have a clock on the Zune device, I'm hearing so many gripes asking why didn't we ALSO get an alarm clock or a stopwatch? Seriously? Even David Pogue, the NY Times columnist, mentioned it in his half-ass attempt to speak well of the Zune.

So I don't know, am I alone here? Do we really need an alarm clock? For what? Do you really sleep with your earbuds in? Is there some appointments that the Zune would help you not miss? Are you listening to the device that much where you'd lose all sense of time? Do you not have a watch?

Do we really need a stopwatch? For what purpose? Are we all at swim meets or at the race track splitting times for the racers? What's the whole deal about a stopwatch again?

If anyone has an intelligible response, I'd LOVE to hear it...

I could understand the issue of not having a clock. That was just ridiculous. As for an alarm clock, not so much. It's an expansion of a basic feature and it's not necessary. I wouldn't mind having one, but I would never use it.

EDIT: And if you want intelligent responses, why not start with a comprehensive and intelligent poll.

Here's your solution to an alarm clock:
iHome ZN9B Clock Radio & Audio System for Zune™

If you want to go cheaper:
Amazon.com: Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set...Amazon.com: Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set...
My god...
People get a clock and they want more. Be glad you got a clock. Use the first item I posted and you can listen to you zune then along with other features.

Honestly..
Why?

Well, I won't burn down a village to get the feature, but a built in sleep timer would be nice, since I sometimes fall asleep with it on and mah fancy earbuds probably shouldn't be in for 5 hours straight. ^_^;

Nah, when I sleep with my earbuds in (which is rarely ever now that I've got my laptop; I just play my music from that), they end up falling out as I sleep anyway. An alarm clock isn't important. Neither is a stopwatch. I can't imagine what I'd do with one.

I have a nice dock I used, but my roommate and I have slighty...differing viewpoints on music. So, I need a more personal solution. And these ones are very stubborn, refuse to come out. They even say in the manual not to leave them in for a while. Though, I think there's a Zune Sleep Timer somewhere around here, maybe it's been 3.0'd.

Why not have those extra features? It's not like they cost $50 or add 25lbs to the weight of the Zune. There's absolutely nothing wrong with getting a little more usability from a portable device. If you want a basic music player then there are many devices out there to suit that purpose and many of them don't even have screens. I bought my Zune because I wanted a multipurpose device and it does that job very nicely.

All of these features that are being deemed 'unworthy to grace the presence of the Zune' are still on the iPod and will continue to enhance the experience of owning one.

I honestly don't have a huge need for an alarm clock/stopwatch.
But if I want one, I'll just get the Zune application.

Alarm could be cool, leave it plugged into some speakers and let it wake you up in the morning.

Hmm... For some reason, the term XNA comes to mind.

Oh yeah. Maybe because if someone really wants such features, they can use XNA to make them. |Whoa...|

Agreed.
Both have already been made.

Even if they were not already made, the opportunity would be there.

For what F@#$ing purpose? Just 'cause there's a clock on there, you expect to have an alarm you'll never use, or a stopwach you'll have no use for? They are completely useless features. If you want one, get the app...

No, but it would cost the Zune Team to make useless features 99% of Zune users will never use (I can't believe any iPod owners use theirs).

Again, what "more usability"? For the off-chance I need to take a split down at the local horse racing track? You have more problems than a Zune without a stopwatch...

And most of them don't have an alarm, so what's your point?

So what's your argument again?

it would just take valuable development (no matter how minuscule) from other more important features that people might actually use.

Because the Ipod has it, doesn't wash I have never heard an ipod owner laud the alarm clock feature as the reason why they bought one, or even why they might think its better than any other mp3 player.

Ouch! I'm just saying I don't see any reason not to have some extra features. I'd rather have features I never use than be left wanting more. This isn't just Zune specific either. My watch is water resistant to 100 meters. I'll never dive down that far but it's nice to know it's okay if I drop it in the sink.

"If you want one, get the app..." Sounds a bit iPhone-ish don't you think?
