well mayb but the videos i bought in the marketplace with the free zune card points looks pretty crisp. so mayb it could show alot better on the zunes that are out if MS decides to make a new video format (.zHD) for 408(p) or *(i) for the zune and it will work well with video out thing! and you know what that means portable HD movies!!!

BUT FILE SIZE wont be a problem because 80, 120 gbs ? thats alot or mayb (.zAD) audio but that all talk from me. and i dam well am sure BILL GATES isnt reading this ...... but hey U NEVA KNOW

Why would you want higher format?
480p is 640x480
But the zune screen is only 320x240.
You can't make the quality better then the screen can show.

Most people like the higher res. for video out. I don't know about you but, I tend to think 320x240 looks a little on the trashy side on my 42" plasma. I'm not saying that 480p looks much better but, it's an improvement, at least.

It takes a fair amount of processor power to do high def video, I doubt the Zune has that kind of power, the current DVD res video is probably the best it can do reliably.

The Zune 1st gen CPU can handle the resolutions up to *ALMOST* 800x600 video, but the output circuitry for TV out is hardwired for standard definition. The Photo viewing capacity of the Zune (including its onboard software) is WAY beyond 1600x1200. The Zune's screens are ALL 320x240, and thus the zune firmware on the first gen zune for video is limited to 320x240 +/- a little bit. Firmware is NOT hackable, thus there is no chance of this changing by anyone but MS.

well i knew you was going to say that (the its all up to MS part.lol) well MS have thier reasons why its firmware is pad locked with a 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000

I'm converting my NGE dvds to zune...ripping straight from the dvd is good and i'm LOVING this...played back on a 19inch monitor is no different from the little 3x2 screen.

I Love zune.

Having the Zune play movies at 480p would not help if you want it to play HD...

480p is not high definition!

hmmmm that is true but its more realistic because if i said 720p or EVEN 1080p i would be lien to myself!!!!!!! because 400Mhz is pretty weak to handle that many fps

do you really need hd movies wasting space on your handheld device?
be glad we're advanced enough to carry around a video player with us.
just wait a year or two for hd.
I was never a fan of the hd movement anyway.
