Default Wait for new Zunes?

So after realizing no other non-ipod mp3 players were out there with >60gb of space, i was planning to get a zune, and i was wondering about the talk of a zune 120 gb or "zune 3" coming out. i'm perfectly satisfied with an 2nd gen 80gb, the only thing im worried about is if the current 80gb's price is suddenly going to drop when a 3rd gen or 120 gb version comes out? any opinions on how soon a new model is coming and how it would effect the current model's price? at the moment i have no functional mp3 player, so I'm very much ready to buy. thanks!

Hopefully we should expect to see a zune 3 release in november, but some people are saying it could be as late as next november. Most likeley it would lower the 80 gig prices a bit, but not anything extreme.

Do you really thnk they'd release it so soon? I don't think so. And would it really be a Zune 3? Or just a Zune 2 with more space?

I want to say the third generation Zune will be released this holiday, but I've heard rumors a few months ago that it could be holiday 09. The 120gb is new to me, but it seems legit. I did, however, hear that it won't be a zune phone which I don't really care that much for anyway. We should hear about a zune 3 soon if it will indeed be released this year.

They would probably release sometime in November (like they did with the other zunes), but no one really knows. November isn't too soon, they've release the zune 80 one year after the first one and Apple also releases new players ever year, so I don't think that this November would be too soon.
BTW. there are more mp3 players beside the zune that have more than 60gb's of space that aren't ipods, but the zune is the best(IMO)

It depends on how badly you want the Zune. If you get a Zune 80, it'll be at least several months before a new one comes out, and if it is the 120, you can likely do a hard drive switch and only be out about half the 80 in exchange for having a 80 longer

If the Zune 120 had any extra features (like the touch sensitive pad in the 4/8/80 series,) we would know about them by now. Remember, the XNA CTP is coming out in November, which is the same time the Zune 120 is coming out, if it's coming out this year. There's no features in the CTP that the current Zunes don't support. Unless they add something new that XNA can't access, like improving the radio or something, the difference between a Zune 80 and a Zune 120 will be just the extra storage capacity.

If the extra 40 megabytes are going to be important to you, it's worth waiting. Otherwise, it isn't.

I agree my bet is just more HD space.

So wait you think in order for zune to be successful they should come out with a new version once a year? Who is going to buy a new one ever year?

I think if MS wants to keep the Zune competitive, then they absolutely need to start developing and releasing their players in pace with other companies. There's not doubt in my mind that people will continue to upgrade as new devices are released. Alot of Apple-ites do exactly that with iPods and iPhones. Think about it. The iPhone 3G was released just one year after the original and everybody still ate it up. It's a smart business move and consumers as a whole are getting used to it as impractical as it may be.

Anyways, sorry for straying from the topic. I don't think I'll be upgrading as soon as the 120Gb hits. I actually JUST got my 80Gb in April and storage hasn't really been a major issue yet. I'll probably hold out for a price drop if/when one comes.

I get what your saying but all they did was add a hardware feature, its really no different than the bigger HD in the zune. Look at how long the classic iPod has been out. And that is what the zune really should be compared to. I just sold my iPod touch to get my zune and I couldn't be happier. The touch is an amazing device but its funny you take away the internet (browser, youtube, weather etc.) and games its really not a very good mp3 player. So what I am saying is it has its place, the ipod touch forums are FLOODED high school kids. That seems to be the place for the ipod touch. The young crowd that wants to play games at school and stuff like that. Not to mention the hard drive that comes in them for the price is ridiculous.

Anyway sorry about the rant, I just think people need to relax a little. We don't need a whole new zune already. They can still do plenty with firmware upgrades. Honestly what more do you want? Touch screen? That is cool for a little while then you get tired of cleaning your screen every 10 min. Here are the only things I would want my zune to do more of. I could handle a better rez screen. Also it will be nice one day when we have 80GB flash hard drives. Also I would love for it to have more codec support. I would like to see the Zune marketplace expand more also. But honestly I love the touch/button thing (sorry I know there is a name but I am new to this) Add in these things I mentioned above one day and I am a lifelong zuner

In case you haven't noticed, Ipod does this very same business model, and their 70% market share in the mp3 market is what I would call "successful."

Well, I get what you're saying, as well. You wouldn't want to buy a Zune Touch in the unlikely event that it comes into existance. That's fine. I'm not knocking you for that. I'm just saying that there's nothing wrong with having options. Like I have stated previously, the current Zunes aren't likely to disappear as new ones arrive. This is what people expect in the wake of the iPod invasion and far be it from MS to dissapoint.

You can say what you want about touch screen devices but, they're increasingly popular and are going to weasel their way into just about every consumer electronic device on the market eventually. And, I have it on good faith that it will come sooner rather than, later. People want multifuntional devices with a simplistic form factor. My suggestion to you is, if you don't agree, don't buy them. It's that simple.

I don't think I explain myself very well I think new options are awesome also. I was trying to say that I don't want the zune to become one of those things that your model has been "outdated" ever year. Does that make sense? Also ESPKH2 Apple does not do this, they might come out with a new player but they do not re-invent all their players every year.

Also I know the touch screen is going to be popular but IMO they are really cool and new and fun for a while. But just think about it if your always touching your screen what is going to happen? I just got so tired of cleaning my ipod touch screen.

Not to mention touch screens aren't cheap enough to just place them anywhere in the near future.

Not to nitpick, but the iPod touch has a flash drive, and there is no such thing as a "flash hard drive". Hard drive = moving parts with metal platter. Flash drive = solid state memory with no moving parts. Two entirely different storage media.

What I want would be a 40 GB flash drive player. It would probably cost the same as the 80, though, but, the flash drive... thats the one thing I want my 80 to have.(plus games and audiobooks, maybe netflix subscription.)
It would seem logical to include it, 40-80-120, if you get what I mean.
Touch screen would be fine. I dont remember who, but someone on the development team said that anything with a screen will eventually evolve into touch.
