Features you'd like to see on the zune

So what features would you like to see on the zune? It can be on hardware or firmware. I would like a web browser, touch screen, zune games preloaded and in the marketplace for free and Microsoft points.

web browser would be nice, i seen alot of people say its not possable, but i know for a fact it is possable, cell phones have them and a zune has a hard drive, i think if a good programmer had the time and money to work on it, then it would be so.of course i give it 5 years tops they will have a ultimate replica of a zune with web features and a built in cell phone to put the ipod and iphone stuff to shame. just takes alot of time and funds to make things happen

I'd like better autoplaylists. In Windows Media Player, you could apply multiple rules in the same category. For example, I could set a rule that included all with a rating of 4 or more stars whose genre is either Rap or Hip Hop. You could also add or remove songs based on what OTHER playlists they were on. Like when I got a new CD, I sorted all the songs on it into either "Appropriate for my little sister" or "Inappropriate for my little sister." (My little sister is 10, and I have to drive her places sometimes.) Then I could maintain clean and explicit versions of some playlists by adding "Exclude all songs on the playlist 'Inappropriate for my little sister'" as a rule to the clean version of the playlist.

It's not an original idea by far but, I'd still like to see a built in mic for voice recording. There are a few cheapo players that have them and there's a third party dev. that makes an accessory mic for the iPod so, I it's reasonalble to believe that the Zune has the capacity to do this as well.

Taking into account what I've seen from Windows mobile browsers, I don't know if I really want one on the Zune but, I do think it would be a great move to create a mobile marketplace that's accessible via wifi. C'mon MS, we know you can do it.

The touchscreen is a given. Let's just hope that MS has this near the top of their ToDo list. There's a new tech in the late stages of development that is supposed to blow Apple's touchscreens out of the water. Keep your fingers crossed.

I badly want to see better interaction between MS products. It just doesn't make any sense to me that MS doesn't let WMP11 play with Zune. I mean it's obviously possible. Also, just about everybody and their dog has an XBOX 360. Why MS isn't exploiting this by offering FULL Zune integration confounds me to know end.

Of course, like most Zune fans, I'm clamoring for a phone as well. Unfortunately, as time goes on and the iPhone becomes more and more ubiquitous, it seems less and less likely. My heart is sad.

I don't think they'll ever capture a comperable maket share to Apple. It's just too late in the game. But, there are certainly things they can do to excite their fanbase. I just hope they don't abandon ship on us.

How about some lyrics? I think it would be pretty cool to see the lyrics of a song while your listening to it. Oh yeah and without having to convert the text to an image file and save it as a picture, that can get pretty annoying.

I number of realllllllly simple things, which could be implemented with just a simple firmware/software update, I think would make my Zune experience a **** load better:

1. Get a normal 5 star type rating. I don't know about you guys, but I don't have songs I don't like...?

2. Have the player keep a 'play count' and sync it with the software (which it most definitely is not doing currently). Have this play count viewable at least on the software, but possibly also on the player.

3. Make the 'quick list' save-able as a playlist which is then transferred to the software upon next sync.

4. (As was said before) Have much better control of auto-playlists, including the possibility for multiple rules.

5. Clock visible on main screen.

I don't know about you guys but I want my Zune to be an mp3 player, because that's why I am interested in purchasing one. I think the idea for it to be a phone is dumb, (not to mention the trigger happy Mac-Fanboys). A touch screen is unnecessary and wouldn't affect the function of the mp3 player. I still don't even own a Zune but I do have some small features that'd be handy. The obvious 1st, is a clock of some sort. 2nd is the ability to use it as a hard drive, without hacks. That's pretty much it. I think the Zune is fine the way it is, but this might change when I own one eh?

I don't mean to be rude but, the Zune is a PMP. It's meant for much more that just mp3's. If you're only interested in a product the plays music, I think buying a Zune would be a waste of your money. There are plenty of cheaper devices that just play music. Of course, if you're just deadset on a Zune, that's your prerogitive.

No, a touchscreen is not absolutely necessary but, that's really rather irrelevant. There are those of us who enjoy the idea and think that it would add a great deal of functionality and appeal.

You're well within your rights to think that the idae of a Zune phone is "dumb" but, the massive success of the iPhone doesn't offer much validation to your point. Please try to voice your opinions in a slightly more considerate manner.

well personally I'd like to see better wifi, an improved loading time for large vidoes, faster transfer rate, a higher resolution. A beam cannon, a lazer, the ability to turn into a swimming pool, and be able to do my homework.

^ I'm with you on the lack of a touchscreen. One of the things I love about having buttons is that I can change songs or the volume by feel and without having to look at the Zune. This is especially nice when I'm driving or walking the dog. A touchscreen on a Zune would just be needless 'bling'.

I'm sure if MS did realease a touchscreen Zune (probably not gonna happen, anyways), it would be much in the same vein as Apple did with the iPod touch. The 4/8/30/80/120 would all remain with the addition of a different touchscreen model. I doubt very seriously MS would alienate the Zune's fanbase by axing any pre-existing models in favor of a touch model. Of course, my entire argument is irrelevant because, I doubt the likelihood of a ztouch more and more every day.
