The 30gb version of the Zune doesn't have a touch pad because it was released in 2006, as the 4/8/80 were released in Nov. 2007. I personally love the Zune 30gb's. They are TANKS.
People don't like the 30gb Zunes because they are old and bulky, I guess.

What do you mean it "hasn't had any updates since 06"? It recieves the same firmware updates as the zune 4/8/80's.

Yes, the Zune 30gb hasn't received any case/body upgrades since it was released.
Just like ALL of the other mp3 players.

Th 30 gb model is a tank like said above. I was going to upgrade to an 80 but decided I didn't need to. I really don't need the space or a touch pad. As long as I can get firmware updates and Zune software updates, I don't care about upgrading. This thing has been a rock solid device that you would have to pry from my cold dead hands.

the zune 30 is just the 1st generation model and is a bit taller, thicker, and wider than the 80. the 30 is an absolute tank and doesnt deserve any disrespect from anyone since it has the same firmware as all the 2nd generations.

Their so jealous cus it has wifi and you can have your favorite background on it, plus it looks great for its age

The 30 is a tank and I love mine. The 80 is beautiful and smaller and much cooler to show off. The 80 also has much better video output. I purchases some heroes episodes from the marketplace and the 80 outputs it to a decently large tv in normal tv quality. It was funny telling people that it was being played from my zune.

I love my 30gb to be honest its never failed me and its what got me started in the zuneverse to begin with. I'll stick with it until it dies on me and keep my 80gb handy.

People just like the 2nd gen because it's newer, has a touch pad, and smaller....basically just to keep up with everyone else's mp3 players.

Some ways that the Zune 30 is better than the 2nd generation Zunes:

60 Hz screen refresh rate (instead of 30 Hz).
Faster processing speed. (About 100 MHz faster.)
Equalizer for music.

30 gig recieved a wifi update lol. also 30 gig is nto that popular, cuz it was realsed as a custume prizew for club live game. however it was just recently where it begame released to stores. also, i don't think 4/8 GB have touch pad. if i am not mistaken it is looks like it does, but it still runs on buttons.

well, I loved my 30 gig, I think the only reason being was that the fps was at 60 and not 30 like the new ones. Plus the screen was HUGE, at least, compared to my new 4. I like my four, yeah, but the 30 will dominate for all eternity.

The 4 and 8 have the same touchpad that the 80 does. Also the 30 has been available before Live Search Club even existed, so I don't know what you're talking about there.

read the cnet review

zune30 (6.6/10)
Zune (30GB, black) MP3 player reviews - CNET Reviews

zune80 (8.3/10)
Microsoft Zune (second generation, 80GB, black) Portable Video Players (PVPs) reviews - CNET Reviews

zune 80 got the editor's choice award, and i totally agree with them
