I have a Zune 80. I logged when I used it and for how long to check my battery life from full charge to completely drained, and it turned out to be roughly 10 hours, 20 minutes. That figure could be just a bit off but I tried to make it as accurate as possible. I only listened to music and one 30 minute podcast. When it was not in use, my zune was either on standby or most of the time completely shut off to save battery. Is this normal battery life for a zune 80? Please post your battery life so I can tell if mine is in the proper range. Thanks.

I can get like 8 hours of straight music.
Probably more because I'm too lazy to actually count them. I can go through probably 4 hours of video.

No this is not normal at all for both of you. Even my zune 30 can out run both of your zune 80. My zune 30 last up to 13hours of music or 16-20 hours of radio, 4 hours of video.
For zune 80, you should get about 20-24 hours of music and 4 hours of video. You should re-calibrate your battery meter so it doesn't cut the power at the wrong time. By re-calibrating your battery meter, you should gain around 10 hours of music playing time. The steps to recalibrating battery meter are: 1) Drain the battery completely so the zune doesn't start or respond 2) Charge the battery until the battery meter is green.

Wow, no, I get like 20 hours of normal use for me. With the Wi-fi off and the screen usually set to medium, because most of the time I can't tell the difference between medium and the max brightness.

The length of the run time can also be affected by the format and bitrate of the songs you're playing. I believe windows media professional will use less power to produce the same quality of audio because the hdd won't be need as often due to high compression rate.

I recalibrated it once and it fixed the problem of a warning notice not popping up when my battery was low. So will recalibrating it once more fix my problem of an apparently short battery life? I sure hope so. I always keep the wifi setting off and the backlight on 15 secs to save battery. Will setting the screen to medium help a lot? I'm sure about the format and bitrate of my songs.

I can get around 20+ hrs using 5 sec backlight, low brightness, and no wi-fi of audio playback.
You don't really need more than 5 sec for back light since if you needed to see something on your zune just put some light pressure on the pad. And low brightness only becomes a problem when trying to use your zune in a sunny area. I could prolly get a few more hrs playback if I didn't shuffle though artists frequently as I do. I also completely turn off my 80gb whenever I'm not going to use it in a half of hr or more. This seems to work well for me.
