I had the ipod before but it fell from my pocket and it stoped working so I give it a 6/10
I bought another player m:robe and it fell from my pocket and just got a minor scratch it fell again(HD Broke) 8/10 I bought the Zune and it fell from my pocket the first day I bought it! nothing hapened to it not even get a scratch ,It fell 4 times after yes FOUR and still nothing.10/10(the fourth time it got a really small dent on one of the corners) I sold it and I bought the new 80gig one. It sort of fells delicate because of how stylish it looks unlike the other bigger one.(I named it a small Zune Brick) The screen i think is made of glass?Somaybe it will crack or something if it falls. I think it might not be as durable as the older one.Am I right? btw-the mp3 players and my phone are carried on my button up shirt pockets, each time I pick up something from the floor gravity takes over and they fall. |

The new Zunes are not as durable as previous model due to the material they're made of. The aluminum of the new Zunes can be dented and the glass screen can crack. It sounds like you need a belt-clip, though. Mp3 players don't belong in your pockets

I've dropped two MP3 players: a Zen Xtra 40GB (killed the headphone jack), and a Zen Vision:W (chipped part of the sides right off). Of course, now that the headphone jack eventually started failing on the Vision:W, I decided to get a Zune. I'll also be getting a carrying case for it. ![]() |

I've dropped my zune 8 a few times, no physical damage ever. The thing is, why do you keep it in your shirt pocket if you know it'll full out every time you bend over? Seems kinda like your asking for something bad to happen.

The title says Zune 8, and your post says Zune 80. I'll assume Zune 80 is what you mean, if so, it's a hard drive based player, hard drive players as a rule are not that durable when compared with flash-based MP3 players. It's much more likely that you'll break a hard drive players with one drop than a flash-based player, and even without drops, hard drives have moving parts that can fail. Some MP3 players have more shock absorbing properties, like the Zune 30, but even then, you're playing with fate if you don't treat it well, it might last through a hundred drops, but there's also a possibilty that one drop will kill the hard drive. If you haven't learned by now how not to drop them, you might think about returning the Zune 80 if you can, and getting a flash-based MP3 players that will better stand up to the abuse.

You know that the hdd is only spinning probably 1/1000 of the time the device is operating. When the hdd is off, it can stand up to probably 5000G (force of gravity measurement), thus unless you can throw the zune at 100miles an hour, I don't think can break the hdd. When the hdd is operating, I think i can take at least 500G for a few miliseconds.
