Default iPods rule.... at least here

So I was in best buy getting a gps system for my dad (fathers day) and I stopped by the DAP department to look at the zune 80 and play with it a little. Well, no such luck. Like usual, all of the zunes were dead (battery, not the device) I asked a rep what the deal was (as I have looked several times, and they are never charged) and he said something about only one side of the tables can be charged at a time, and the ipods are on the other side (so guess which gets charged) he goes on to say nobody is ever interested in the zune, and their store has only sold three THIS YEAR!!! I asked how many ipods had been sold, he told me HE had sold 30 or so this month.

Where I live, the ipod rules all other DAPs with an iron fist.

Anyone else have similar experiances?

Same for me, I believe I'm the only person in my school with a zune.

Well, I can't really say. There is always a good amount of Zunes in stock at all of my surrounding stores, but it's the same for the iPods. I guess the question is if there's always a good amount due to demand, or am I looking at the same units every time I go into stores .

I personally don't understand the animosity towards Zunes by the stores -- why not allow both products to compete? I mean, you go to BB or CC and one can play around with the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PSP side by side. Using their logic, they should turn off the power to the PS3 since the 360 and Wii have so much more dominance in gaming right now -- and that would be stupid. Just as, not allowing the public to compare the Zune on an even playing field.

At my Best Buy, half the Zunes have a dead battery.

Sure, ipod dominates. But zunes are becoming more and more common. And my best buy keeps the batterys charged.

Mine too. I've seen the Zunes dead at Target, but that was back when the 30s were the only model. Now that I think about it, Target has actually had fake iPod display models instead of real ones. They were shiny cutouts put in the docks and speakers instead of working models. That was also a while ago, though. Now everything is real and working.

That fails.
I really wish that BB would step it up.

Ah, before the Zune, there was the Creative ZVM. I found it at BB, fell in love with it, then bought it later. Now, Best Buy doesn't even stock Creative players. I have seen a few Zunes at school, but mostly still iPods.

Yeah, well, the people at Best Buy are idiots. Sometimes I like to play on their ignorance and mess with them.

I've seen at least 5-6 other people with a Zune at my school this year. It must be the area.

Yeah people at best buy think that the customer doesn't know whats going on, so they tried to get my girlfriend to purchase like 300 dollars worth of warranties and tech support, and she's like nah, i got my bf and i just had a smirk on my face. lol

Ive seen people at my BestBuy trying to check out the Zunes but theyre not even activated. Everything in the menu selections says go to Zune.net.

I dont know if I should blame Microsoft for not letting the user play with the Zune as soon as its out of the box, or Best Buy for being so lazy as to not activating the demo Zunes to begin with.

The 30s are fine though, just stuck with the old firmware so people dont really get why it looks so outdated.

I just got back from deployment a month ago and it was amazing how many Zunes I saw over there. Don't get me wrong there were still plenty of Ipods but I think there actually might have been as many Zunes as Ipods, as hard as it is to believe. Everyone I worked with seemed to have a Zune.

It not just at your Best Buy, it happens at mine to. All the iPods are charged and all the other non iPods are dead, scratched or damaged in some way. I think Apple pays them more for them to make comments like that.

It's the Walt Mossberg effect on a corporate scale.

So I was just at circuit city and they had a zune 80 that was charged. The sales rep was trying to convince me that ipod's click wheel design was far superior to the zunes 4 way directional pad. That immediately set off an alarm. I said, well doesn't the zune have a touchpad? he insisted it did not. So I walked over, and flicked down on the pad, flipping through the menu items. The sales rep looked in amazement. I told him he must be new there. He wasn't. He had been working there for a year and a half. Is that sad or what?

My Best Buy was sold out of Zunes, so I guess people are buying. Sad thing is they didnt stock much at all. One of the sales rep opened up the storage cabinet under the zune displays, and it was FULL of ipods.

I went to my Best Buy today. They took out their Red Zune 8. The Black Zune 30 was dead, and the black Zune 8 was fully charged...

Of course, the iPod touch was dead, so that was OK.
