This is a s/c of a description for an 8gb pink Zune. I'm just wondering what the comment means. Does it mean that it has never been used, just opened or re-sealed, or what?

Open box means it was opened, but somebody didn't like it so they returned it.

Yep, that's probably it. It should be fine and, if not, you can just return it.
