Default [SOLVED] Will Zune ever support Audio-Books?

I know you can just convert them to an MP3 but it gets bothersome trying to find your place everytime..

That's one thing iPod does well is it's audio-book support.

What about the audiobooks that you rip yourself?

When will the Zune support that?

And when will the Zune support Microsoft's own Windows Media 9 Voice codec? It's still the best sounding, most efficient codec for the spoken word a.k.a. audio books!

Right now, the only way for the Zune to bookmark your audiobook is to change the Genre tag to Podcast so that it supports the Resume and removes the files you've already listened to. But doing this really messes up the ordering of the files in the Zune.

I talked recently with the Microsoft employee who is very involved in the Zune and personal media products and even he, an avid audiobook ripper, is frustrated with the lack of support.

So, IMHO, I would NOT say that this is SOLVED. Audible.com is only one piece of the puzzle.

I would say it is Solved, when the support is there. It should not be marked as fixed.

You could merge all the files into one

Default Audible != all Audio Books

I would politely have to disagree. The original post asked will the Zune support Audio Books and the SOLVE answer was that Audible support will come at the end of the year. Audible is only one company and one format of audio books. That said, it did seem to satisfy the OP, RatedMedieval.
The Zune really needs to extend the support it currently has for podcasts to include bookmarkable audio book files.

"SOLVED" does not mean the issue is solved. It means that the question at hand was sufficiently answered.

It always seems to me that people will never be happy. Nothing against the op but everytime Zune comes out with an update,People always find something to complain about. I've heard people say now that Zune sucks because it can't do audiobooks. What ever happened to reading book? Well it didn't have podcast surport in the beginning and now according to cnet,The Zune is the best mp3 player for podcast. So in time i'm sure it will do the same for audiobooks.

Thanks for the suggestion, and I have tried it, but the file can be enormous, cause problems if you accidentally hit the forward/back button, etc.

Not unhappy, not complaining, just urging the Zune team to consider for next release.

I'm being facetious, but I do think there are a lot of people who would like to listen to audiobooks. To successfully compete with the iPod or iPhone, the Zune should provide support for them similar to the .m4b format that Apple supports. (Yes, the Zune technically supports .m4b, but it converts it and doesn't support bookmarks).

I certainly hope so and that's why I'm urging the team to support it. I am very happy with my Zune and especially the Podcast features; the fact that they didn't abandon the first generation hardware, etc. Kudos, but let's keep improving.
