Default Microsoft To Bring Ads to the Zune?

Well, seems like something worse than me DOES exist.

According to CNet, Microsoft is bringing ads to the Zune. Since I'm not going to copy and paste, and there is a link below, don't panic too much, just click the link, read, and discuss.

CNet: No more ads on my Zune, please.

It seems like it's all on a voluntary basis. I don't see what the big deal is especially if they're going to give you free sh*t like music or videos as a reward.

I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.[/

Voluntary is what saves them here. If it was forced, it'd be a reason to

A. Pirate the stuff for free
or
B. Go to iPod or some other brand

I'm GLAD it's voluntary.

Yeah, that's all I'm saying. It's not like you have to watch a 30 second commercial every time you switch to different track or turn you Zune on. I mean personally, I think that that the whole Zune social thing is kind of lame and the market place is just awful as far as selection goes. I realize that it's just in the beginning stages but still. I got an mp3 player so i didn't have to lug all 500+ cds around with me every time I left the house not to make friends. So it sounds like even if it were forced it would only be an issue if you used the marketplace or the whole social thing.

why would they even think about pulling a stupid stunt like this? Who the hell wants annoying crap like that anyways? Whenever i hear a commercial on the Tv or radio i just switch because i hate them. If they were on the zune i would implode or something.

Same here. This looks like something that would be up to the user and not forced on everyone. I think anti Microsoft/Zune people will make this into a big deal though. Not a big fan of cnet either. More Zune hate on that site than you would believe.

Same here. But it's just things like this that make me mad. A company makes a bad decision, sometimes they'll force something down people's throats, making them resort to illegal downloading, then a company or everyone will go and make something like DRM to punish us.

Luckily, this is optional. But like the above guy said, Anti-Zuners and retards will make a BIG deal out of this.

This could be good or bad, but I'm betting it will end up being bad. It just sounds like it would be irritating. I don't want anything on my Zune that I didn't put on there, including ads. I'd rather just buy my music.

Well it IS optional so it's not that bad. I'd even go download it off the thing, then re-record it or burn to a CD so that I wouldn't be hassled with it if it happened.

I know. The fact that it's optional makes it okay, as stated, but it's still kind of weird. It reminds me of the episode of Futurama where Fry has advertisements in his dreams. As long as it's not required then I'm fine .
