Okay I have a friend that has a sansa, and he is looking to get a zune around christmas time. He wants to try out the zune software to get the hang of it and get used to it. Can he buy music off the zune marketplace and use it on his sansa?(not through the zune software of course)

He'll need to use the Zune Software.
Just get a DRM ripper (Illegal)

What I mean is when he purchases music with the zune marketplace it would go to his my music folder. Could he then use his sansa's software to put it on his sansa. and I thought all the DRM music was gone.

Music you buy from Zune Marketplace is not DRM-infected, they're just MP3s, they can be used on any MP3 player. It's only the Zune Pass music that is DRM infected.
