Default Zune Generation Two Questions

Hey everyone. I've been looking around to replace my old mp3 and am new to the Zune market. ((Ipod also for that matter )) I've been comparing the G2 Zune 80 GB to the G6 Ipod 80 GB. After thinking about it and getting some friend advice I'm leaning more towards the Zune over the Ipod. But, I have some questions about the Zune 80 GB that will help me know I'm making the best choice.

First off I want to know what is the Zune 80 GB's life time really like on a full charge for music? What is said on the box and what it really is tends to be rather different. This is an important factor for me because I use my current mp3 player about 6 hours or more a day. And it's really killed the battery because I have to charge it atleast once a day now. Which brings me to ask will my excessive use of battery charging kill the battery life of a Zune 80 GB? I'd hate to send 250$ if it's not going to be able to handle my excessive use of it.

Lastly, how fragile is the Zune 80 GB? I've heard mixed thoughts on it and was wondering what others have experienced. I tend to take very careful care of my players but we all have accidents and drop things right? Will the player survive a bump or drop?

Anyway I think that's all I want to know.

The advertised battery life is about 30 hours. That's obviously not true. However, if you keep the wireless off when you are not using wireless, then you can probably get over 20 hours on one charge. I doubt your use will dramatically affect the battery life. I use my Zune about as frequently as you do (6 or more hours a day) and I've noticed no difference. While the Zune 80 is no tank (the Zune 30 is), it's not as fragile as iPods. It can survive drops and such. Get a case to ease your mind.

The Zune 30 is crazy, it can withstand almost everything I have heard of.

The Zune 80 is a good choice, sleek and slim with enough room for music and videos to last you a pretty long time

They never do match the advertised battery life do they? But, 20 hours would still be more than impressive and far greater than my needs. And it's good to hear excessive use of the battery doesn't have a large impact on the battery. My current mp3 player doesn't have lithium-ion battery which is probably why I killed the battery so quickly. And I hear way to often that Ipods are fragile. You would think a few hundred dollar player would have a strong build. Guess not everyone thinks that way.

Anyway your view and experiences with your zune are encouraging. Thankyou for your input.

This is so true about turning off the wireless. It gives you more playing time for sure. And unless you really need 80 GB's i would advice getting a Zune 30. They go for about the price of a new 8 GB flash player i think. And it is like a tank. And unlike Apples ipod you get all the new features for free. With an ipod you will end up replacing it for the latest features.

You'll get way more than 6 hours out of a charge.
My 80 stayed on playing continuously for 20+ hours.
Def. go with the 80, slimmer, better looking, and better battery.
And as Draigos said, With an iPod you have to buy the newest iPod to get the newest features.
All you have to do with your zune is update it, FO FREE.

I think the 80 GB is a good choice for me. I mostly listen to music I do watch videos. Also I like having room for future music and videos. I'd rather have too much memory than not enough. Though the Zune 30 may indeed be enough. It's a shame it doesn't have the touch pad that the Zune 80 has. And getting new features for free is very sweet. I didn't realize Microsoft did this. That's a great selling point! Thanks for letting me know that.

I'm happy to hear someone else speak highly of the Zune. Always encouraging to hear.
