Default Sooo Premium?

I have been thinking about getting premium headphones.

Are they worth it?

i would recommend you spending your $40 wisely picking carefully.. people say Skull Candy FMJ(full metal jacket) is good.. and i say JVC Marshmallow is good.. those range from $8-$50 if you can find it cheap.

Not at all worth it. There are better choices, how much are you looking to spend?

I decided to just list some of the in-ears I'd recommend (based on personal experience and trustworthy opinions of others) in each range under $100. I assumed you wanted in-ears, but I can list other designs also, larger 'phones will generally have better sound quality in the comparable price range, compared to in-ears.
